From the BlogMeet Ron

“On awakening let us think about the twenty-four hours ahead. We consider our plans for the day. Before we begin, we ask God to direct our thinking, especially asking that it be divorced from self-pity, dishonest or self-seeking motives. Under these conditions we can employ our mental faculties with assurance, for after all God gave us brains to use. Our thought-life will be placed on a much higher plane when our thinking is cleared of wrong motives.”

Thought to Consider . . .
At first, I thought the “God thing” was a crutch. Turns out to be stilts.
“Society is like a crowd in carnival costumes with
everyone fearful that others will see through his disguise.”

We are sure that humility, expressed by anonymity, is the greatest safeguard that Alcoholics Anonymous can ever have.
Since there are no rules in A.A. I place myself where I want to be, and so I choose anonymity. I want my God to use me, humbly, as one of His tools in this program. Sacrifice is the art of giving of myself freely, allowing humility to replace my ego. With sobriety, I suppress that urge to cry out to the world, “I am a member of A.A.” and I experience inner joy and peace. I let people see the changes in me and hope they will ask what happened to me. I place the principles of spirituality ahead of judging, fault-finding, and criticism. I want love and caring in my group, so I can grow.

“The principle of any science is invisible, theoretical, as is our idea of Spirit. No one has seen God; no one has seen Life; what we have seen is the manifestation of Life. No one has seen Intelligence; we experience it. No one has ever seen Causation; we can see what It does, we deal with Its effects. We do not see Beauty. The artist feels beauty and depicts it as best he can, and the result of his effort is what we call the beautiful…We do not see Life, we experience living. Causation is invisible.”

ACIM Workbook Lesson 242 Insights
“This day is God’s. It is my gift to Him.”
This lesson is another example of remembering that giving and receiving are the same. When I give my day to God, I am open to receive His gifts. When I think I have a will different from His, I am choosing against God and against His gifts. I think I want something else.
It is interesting to observe the subtle ways I attempt to tell God what to do. I may say I am open to His Will, yet I may have conditions in which I will receive His Will. I may be willing to accept His Will provided I don’t have to move or I can have a certain relationship I think is important or I can have the kind of clothes I think are important. These conditions I hold in my mind are there only because I believe my will is not the same as God’s. I believe I know what will make me happy and I’m not really sure God’s Will will make me happy.
There is a suspicion in the back of my mind that God demands sacrifice, which is another way of saying God doesn’t care about my happiness. Yet the Course says His Will for me is perfect happiness. So I must be missing something. I am believing the ego’s lies that tell me specialness will bring me happiness. But when I seek specialness, I must also choose to be separate from God’s Love. Thus I am missing His Love and misinterpreting what His Love is.
The ego doesn’t tell me that it’s substitute for love — specialness — will never satisfy. In fact, choosing specialness is literally self-sacrifice. To have specialness, I must give up awareness of my Self, which is limitless, eternal Love. Specialness is an attempt to limit Love, yet Love cannot be limited and be Love.
And so today I choose to give my day to God without reservation. Thus I open my heart to receive the gift of All That is, the gift of Love. There is no greater treasure. Nothing else can bring me perfect happiness and peace that cannot be disturbed. Thank You God for Your gifts to me.
Giving my day to God is the same as giving my day to the truth. This world of separation is a defense against God. Today I would practice refraining from defending against the truth. Today I would let my mind be quiet. Today I would practice opening to my real Life, the Life I live in God eternally. Today I would practice opening my mind and listening to the Holy Spirit, Which is my bridge of return to the truth.
I give this day to recognizing only God is real. I would let myself be carried by the Wings of Peace. I would let my perceptions be transformed so what is not true disappears and falls away into the nothingness that it is.
Today I would take all thoughts of apprehension or worry to God. God is Where my true safety lies. I would return to the one Identity That is real. I open my mind to God and let all false ideas of division fall away. The truth is true and nothing else is true. God is real and nothing else is real. I give this day to God.
I didn’t think there was much for me to surrender to God today. As I sat there letting my mind wander, little worries started popping up and the list turned out to be longer than I would have thought. I gave it all to Holy Spirit and asked Him to show me a new way of seeing them. I told God that I surrender my entire day to Him and I didn’t have any suggestions as to how it is to go. I asked Holy Spirit to keep an eye on me and if I start taking parts of it back to remind me of my commitment.
My reaction is interesting. I feel elated; then I feel nervous. Doing everything myself and being in control is a lifelong habit for me and one I’ve been taught is both vital for my survival and is my responsibility and not to be shirked. So, I give that reaction to Holy Spirit. I really think I can afford to trust the Creator of the universe with the important issues of my life for just one single day. After I see how He does with today, I’ll make a decision about tomorrow. (That is meant as ironic humor-I think!)
Ha! I too am still trying to bargain with God. I found myself saying I need to get this done and THEN I’ll let God do the rest. How arrogant!
I have to remind myself that God really does have all the right answers, not me, who is but a vessel. God knows what to say, when to do it, what to do and what experiences I need. Every time I think I have surrendered, I have these little reminders.

“God is simple. Everything else is complex.
Do not seek absolute values in the relative world of nature.”
― Paramahansa Yogananda, Autobiography of a Yogi

Life-changing quotes by the late RG LeTourneau,
the prolific pioneer of earth moving machinery who
acquired 300 patents before his death.

1. The Lord knew what he was doing when
He gave men eyes to see things in different ways.
He knew that it takes all sorts to make a world.

2. Failure is never fatal and success is never final.

It is persistence that counts.

3. The fact is that we have no right to expect life to be a path of roses,
and if it were it would not be good for us.

4. Compile a list of successful men in all walks of life and you
will find that all won through by the sweat of their brow.

5. The joy of accomplishment is the greatest joy there is. –

6. I heard a man tell how the entire office force had prayer together
before going to work in the morning and how God blessed the business.

7. Not how much of my money I give to God,
but how much of His money I keep for myself.

8. Because I believe God wants business men as well as preachers,
I believe a factory can be dedicated to His service as well as a church.

9. We took our problem to our Lord, and felt better about it.

You know, a lot of people take their problems to the Lord,
and get up and walk away, carrying their problems back with them.
Like those who pray for rain, and then go out without an umbrella. If that’s all the faith there is, there is not much point in praying. The Lord can’t help you if you insist on carrying your problems with you. Leave them with Him, and they are no longer yours but His.

10. You will never improve unless you blame yourself for the troubles you have. Then when you realize your troubles are your own, you can take them to the Lord and He will give you guidance. Just don’t make the mistake of asking Him to believe the other fellow was to blame.

11. We need to teach our children the dignity of labor and the pleasure of accomplishment.
Some people think I’m all mixed up — that you can’t serve the Lord and business, too, but that’s just the point. God needs businessmen as partners as well as preachers. . . . – (Source, Mover of Men and Mountains, Autobiography)

12. When you go into partnership with God, you’ve got a Partner closer and more active than any human partner you can ever get. He participates fully in everything you let Him do, and when you start putting on airs, and thinking you’re doing it with your own head of steam, He can set you down quicker and harder than a thunderbolt. There’s nothing dull about being in partnership with God.

13. When a man admits his mistakes, and is willing to learn from them with the Lord’s help,
even If it takes seven days to make a living, you ought to be doing something else.whole worlds can open up.

14. America is the most prosperous nation because it is the most productive nation.
If it ever ceases to be the most productive, it will cease to be the most prosperous.”

15. When the Lord has a job for you to do, He’ll give you the strength and the ability to do it.

16. The joy of accomplishment, to me, makes long hours and sweating it out worthwhile.

17. The pebbles of knowledge must be bonded together by the cement of experience.

18. Jesus said: ‘Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.’
The standards of living would raise tremendously if we all did just that.

19. We will never have real peace on earth until we give
more time and loyalty to the Prince of Peace, or Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

20. Men can’t have what men don’t produce.

21. Love that is forced love is not real love, and God wants our real love.

22. If you make your muscles do a job that is within reason,
they will soon get strong enough so it won’t be so hard.

23. I believe faith in the old fashioned gospel of Christ makes better mechanics,
better accountants, better salesmen, and better executives.
