OCTOBER 2015 HEARD AT MEETINGS

If you don’t do nothing today you’re not going to be getting nothing tomorrow.
Anonymous
===================
 When I was a little boy and little old ladies
with see me coming they would clutch their purses.
Anonymous
===================
So this new guy came to the meeting
and he said I don’t know about this God
stuff and his friend said don’t worry about
it he’ll contact you.
Anonymous
===================
Even though I have no idea where I’m going,
I know he will guide me.
Anonymous
===================
The two richest countries in
the world are Germany and Japan, why?
Because they surrendered.
Anonymous
===================
My sponsor said there’s no extra credit for
sponsoring and working with others.
Anonymous
=====================
She said that we do that to stay
alive, clean and sober that that’s
 the sole aim of the service.
Anonymous
=====================
He said that everyday my alcoholism
made my radar arise, steps 10 11 or
what that’s for and about.
Anonymous
=====================
I was a big believer in it’s better to beg for
forgiveness rather than to ask for permission.
Anonymous
=====================
This guy ‘set down’ and it took him
15 minutes to tell me what the
program was all about.
Anonymous
=====================
As a woman I was a drag racer
and I was crazy and wild.
Anonymous
=====================
Back then I put men on a pedestal
and I got crazier.
Anonymous
=====================
I drank a magnum of wine and said
‘oh I’m a kind of connoisseur, I was
drinking even more, because I was
 a connoisseur.
Anonymous
=====================
My main lover was alcohol,
and alcohol was my main lover.
Anonymous
=====================
I would go out every morning and
look at my car to see if there was any blood on it.
Anonymous
=====================
When I’m not taking care of me,
I’m Hollow and empty inside.
Anonymous
=====================
I missed one of my service positions it
and I had to own it. It is no longer all about me.
Anonymous
=====================
I had to slow down because I was
missing out on all the components of a real life.
Anonymous
=====================
The principle of Step 1 is honesty,
what defines me as an alcoholic
who couldn’t stop drinking.
Anonymous
=====================
The word humility is mentioned
41 times in the 12 x 12.
Anonymous
=====================
I scattered my husband’s ashes on Maui at the blowhole.
I did that because it was a bit of a blow hole.
Anonymous
=====================
I was born on Maui, raised in Honolulu,
moved to New York City, I tended to break
out in spots.
Anonymous
=====================
In the fellowship I’ve heard it’s called doing a geographic.
Anonymous
=====================
 One question, have you ever had a sunburn
on the top of your mouth.
Anonymous
=====================
I was in and out of the fellowship
for a long time talking about the
steps and about a sponsor I never had.
Anonymous
=====================
I drank so much my body was like a
toilet which couldn’t flush out.
Anonymous
=====================
 My plan was to come in,
take a cake and go on with my life.
Anonymous
=====================
I still do some of the same old things,
polishing my defects in the same old way.
Anonymous
=====================
I really did some self-inflicted ass whipping.
Then, I found the fellowship and the steps.
Anonymous
=====================
I had no choice, my back was up against my spine,
 I weighed 56 lb.
Anonymous
=====================
I was told confusion was control,
and that I had a choice.
Anonymous
=====================
When I got sober I had to get Transportation,
I got a motorbike and ended up in the hospital.
I read the 12 x 12 in the big book passionately.
Anonymous
=====================
The last time I was here it was in 1969
and I was on my way to Vietnam,
today being here as much nicer.
Anonymous
=====================
I had my first drink at at 6 years of age
 and I got sober at 21.
Today I have 35 years.
Anonymous
=====================
You share your stuff and I can relate.
Anonymous
=====================
I had always felt like freeze-dried alcohol,
 a little alcohol and I was in full bloom.
Anonymous
=====================
I found out in the rooms that I
was full of self-loathing.
Anonymous
=====================
In the morning I always pray to God
please don’t let me get into any trouble
 that you can’t get me out of.
Anonymous
=====================
The late Norm Alpi said we could have missed it all.
Anonymous
=====================
They had thought my grandfather was dead
and then they said ‘no, he’s got a 3.4 alcohol level’.
Anonymous
=====================
I went to my first meeting in the Santa Ana Jail.
 I didn’t want it, but they said they were bringing
coffee and donuts.
Anonymous
=====================
I had four Ex-Wives who were looking
for me for child support.
I was also in jail 35 times.
Anonymous
=====================
There was this man who spoke of honoring grace.
Anonymous
=====================
I have a sponsor who has a sponsor.
Anonymous
=====================
I’ve only been arrested twice in
my life both times for public intoxication.
I had gotten drunk and fell asleep on the sidewalk.
I didn’t see anything wrong with that, but the police did.
Anonymous
=====================
After 9 months of being out there I tried to get
back into the fellowship but I couldn’t.
Anonymous
=====================
Then one day a lady grabbed me and said this is a gift.
That hit me very hard.
Anonymous
=====================
Jimmy said that we were going to go to Hawaii,
I thought he was crazy and probably was going
to have me drive a space shuttle.
That was 25 years ago.
Anonymous
=====================
My wife and I had a handshake divorce.
Anonymous
=====================
She said you’re going to establish a
relationship with your Higher Power.
Anonymous
=====================
That self-deception thing, it didn’t apply to me.
((Laughter)
anonymous.
=====================
You guys were my first and only
example of what sanity is.
My parents were both Alcoholics.
Then one day a man said to me
 before you do anything else you
have to do the first step.
You have to admit it.
Anonymous
=====================
This man said if you had cancer and
had to go to a doctor every day you would go.
Well you have the disease of alcoholism
 and you need to go to a meeting every day.
Anonymous
=====================
My head will try and tell me that I don’t
have to do this or that. I can’t believe the lie.
Anonymous
====================
We need to keep coming to meetings
so we don’t believe the lie that our
disease keeps trying to tell us.
Anonymous
====================
This program is taught me to stay in my own lane.
Anonymous
====================
In my case it was doing it knowing it
was crap and doing it anyway.
Anonymous
====================
When I was 17 in New York cop
told me ‘kid you’re an Alcoholic’.
Anonymous
====================
I heard a voice in my head say you
never have to drink again.
I said I didn’t say that.
I celebrated 30 years this last month.
Anonymous
====================
I had so little self-esteem that a
homeless man kissed me at a bus stop
and I didn’t know how to say stop.
Anonymous
====================
I couldn’t express my feelings
so I just drank more.
Anonymous
====================
I’m not sleeping anymore and today I can
tell someone getting my boat and let me help you.
Anonymous
====================
Many times I’ve had to say to my kids,
I don’t remember, I was drinking then.
I always ask for their forgiveness.
Anonymous
====================
Self-interest was slip away I was told.
Anonymous
====================
Sometimes I think why should I accept myself,
why can’t they just accept me the way I am.
Anonymous
====================
When I think of acceptance,
I don’t have to like it,
I just sometimes just have to accept it.
Anonymous
====================
At the age of 20 I married into a very abusive
relationship, we both took hostages.
Anonymous
=======================
My wife told me that she was going to
leave me and get an abortion. She did.
Anonymous
=======================
My higher power today is very organic,
I try not to put it in a box.
Anonymous
=======================
I was scared to be vulnerable,
yet I’ve worked very hard in this relationship.
Anonymous
=======================
That music over there makes
everything here so profound.
Anonymous
=======================
Vulnerability is truly a spiritual tool.
Anonymous
=======================
If I nod I’m showing some sort of vulnerability.
So today I make mini gestures.
Anonymous
=======================
I mentioned before the spirituality of imperfection.
We grabbed onto that as only the dying can.
Anonymous
=======================
I learned to hit him with a prayer instead of a chair.
Anonymous
=======================
Someone says you leave Hawaii but
Hawaii never leaves you.
Anonymous
=======================
When I came into the fellowship nobody
could sponsor me, so I sponsored myself.
Anonymous
=======================
How is a rip-off artist, I ripped off everybody else’s God.
Anonymous
=======================
I would leave phamphlets around the house
hoping my mom would get it, but she never did.
Anonymous
=======================
I joined the army, at least I tried to join the
Army and I couldn’t pass the drug and alcohol
test so the recruiter gave me something that
hid the alcohol and drugs.
Anonymous
=======================
When I came into the fellowship my
mom said they’re going to brainwash you,
and my dad said go ahead your brain needs it.
Anonymous
=======================
Your message is the same but the voice is different.
Welcome to Hawaii.
Anonymous
=======================
If I had known it was going to be my last drink
 I would have ordered something else.
Anonymous
=======================
I’m a child of the Revolution and I
flunked out of college five times.
Anonymous
=======================
They also knew I was running around
campus trying to burn it down.
Anonymous
=======================
They called me into the office and told
me that I was wasting their time and
my dad’s money.
Anonymous
=======================
He came around and asked me to
marry him and I said sure, okay, fine.
I was not very committal.
Anonymous
=======================
We were driving stoned and I hit a snow
plow and the engine ended up in my lap.
I also broke my leg.
Anonymous
=======================
You would think that would have gotten my attention.
Anonymous
=======================
Someone said they used to call them insane
asylums in today they call them treatment centers.
Anonymous
=======================
Everywhere I went there were
people trying to stay sober.
Anonymous
=======================
They said, that is put up with you
until you can put up with yourself.
Anonymous
=======================
Fortunately, with God’s grace,
I will only have to quit once.
Anonymous
=======================
There are a lot of people there for a
 great amount of time, they have had deaths,
divorces, broken hearts, loss of jobs,
and haven’t had to take a drink.
Anonymous
=======================
God can take my defects and leave me
by the nose to where I’m supposed to be going.
Anonymous
=======================
The meeting after the meeting is
where my spirituality began.
Anonymous
=======================
Today I can take my disease with me and show it
all of the cool things I get to do now.
Anonymous
=======================
At my mother’s funeral my two sisters
 had long hated each other,
they stood on each side of me
they had stuff that was supposed
to pass the statute of limitations
Anonymous
=======================
I continue to stay here because I’m as
sick as my secrets.
Anonymous
=======================
If they tell me their problems,
that’s how whacked-out I am.
Anonymous
=======================
I’m not a hugger, I have a lot of
problems with people hugging me.
Anonymous
=======================
They told me to get a home-group,
they said if I didn’t that then I was homeless.
Anonymous
=======================
The Unity comes when I let you in.
Anonymous
=======================
I spent 10 hours on a plane with people
who didn’t love me like you have.
Anonymous
=======================
He said if you forgive
you don’t have to think about it.
Anonymous
=======================
I had to admit complete defeat, and as a result life got better.
Anonymous
=========================
Sometimes I’m just so busy thinking about what
I’m going to say that I don’t hear what you have to say.
Anonymous
=========================
It’s nice to be clean and sober next time
I’ll take my meds a little bit earlier though.
Anonymous
=========================
Life begins when your Comfort ends.
Anonymous
=========================
Life itself is like an adjustable wrench,
it just about fits any nut.
Anonymous
=========================
The pain in my life had become the norm.
I never knew there was another way.
Anonymous
=========================
When I took a drink I did the things that I didn’t dare do.
Anonymous
=========================
I bought $250 worth of tapes on anxiety but
I didn’t know what an alcoholic was.
Anonymous
=========================
 I couldn’t stop drinking I couldn’t even string 7 days together .
Anonymous
=========================
I went to Alcoholics Anonymous and was blaming everyone
in my life and someone said maybe you have to try ala-non.
Anonymous
=========================
Let me be alone in my car and it’s great therapy.
I curse everybody on the road.
That’s way I get rid of things.
Anonymous
=========================
When I read the big book I knew I was an alcoholic
but I wasn’t changing and I thought there must be
something wrong with me.
Anonymous
=========================
And then I started doing the steps and found
I was just another run-of-the-mill Alcoholic.
Anonymous
=========================
We only have a belief and a faith that there’s a God.
Anonymous
==========================
I asked God to guide my steps because I
have no guidance of my own.
Anonymous
==========================
I bottomed out in Australia when I was 23.
My dad suggested that I come to the fellowship.
Anonymous
==========================
Now I’m twice as old as I was then, at age 46,
and I haven’t had a drink in 23 years.
Anonymous
==========================
Good morning God, I’m willing to do your will,
please show me what to do today.
Anonymous
==========================
I got away from the meetings and into spirituality
 and my sponsor said don’t get too spiritual are
you will be of absolutely no good on Earth.
Anonymous
==========================
Maybe after work I might call my son and tell
him what I think,now that’s a real booby trap!
Anonymous
==========================
The decision has to be followed by action.
Anonymous
==========================

I came here to learn how to do some control drinking.
I was struck with depression,
and the doctor said you’re to go to AA.
Anonymous
===========================
I wanted to be treated myself by self-diagnosed depression.
Anonymous
===========================
 It was only when I could start to say that
I was an alcoholic that I could start to ride that
highway to sobriety and I fought it all the way.
Anonymous
===========================
I needed a good sponsor and in order to be
 a good sponsor I had to have a good sponsor.
Anonymous
===========================
Obviously she didn’t take any b******* from
it because I’m still here 15 years later.
Anonymous
===========================
Today my sponsor is a wonderful person
and I love my life. I get to come here
while my husband is working.
Hawaii is so wonderful and I’ve never
 been to an outdoor meeting before.
Anonymous
===========================
God’s will for me is to have a grateful attitude.
Anonymous
===========================
Sometimes things get hard because
I think them hard.
Anonymous
===========================
I came here not because I saw the light,
but because I felt the heat.
Anonymous
===========================
Crazy seemed to  be more honorable
than being an alcoholic. My husband
called me a sweet psycho b****.
Anonymous
===========================
I’ve got to be careful what I’m thinking
because that’s what I bring into my reality.
Anonymous
===========================
Sometimes I feel like an atheist because
 I believe that my Higher Power is within.
Anonymous
===========================
Sometimes I need a speed bump between
my brain and my mouth.
Anonymous
===========================
I was able to see that in my life the
unacceptable had become the acceptable.
Anonymous
===========================
Restoring your sanity is not an easy feat,
my family, friends, doctors, none could
help only God can remove me from myself.
Anonymous
===========================
I’ve come to believe because it works
for you and for myself I could not conceive.
Anonymous
===========================
I finally got over that judge who was going to judge me, myself.
Anonymous
===========================
I finally went out for a year and I could
feel my IQ going down.
It helped me get it back into the rooms.
Anonymous
===========================
Obviously when I’m drinking I’m crazy.
Anonymous
===========================
I’m the person who always test the hot stove,
 just like the jaywalker.
Anonymous
===========================
I discovered that I had to stop believing
 everything that my head was trying to tell me.
Anonymous
===========================
I always prayed when I was in trouble.
Anonymous
===========================
I need to come here and listen to your
 insanity in order to gain my own.
Anonymous
===========================
It’s the way I am, I have a lot of defects of character.
Anonymous
===========================
I was here a little over 20 years ago with my friend,
Terry, who died from this disease.
Anonymous
========================
I found that when I started drinking
my brain would stop racing.
Anonymous
========================
I found it was easy to stop drinking if
I used heroin, as a matter of fact after
using heroin I didn’t want to drink.
Anonymous
========================
They poured me a glass of wine and I
 got in my car after drinking two bottles
and got in an accident.
Anonymous
========================
I got hammered every day with whatever
 I could put in my body.
Anonymous
========================
My first meeting was called the Winner’s Circle
and I called it the whiners Circle,
 I was the main whiner.
Anonymous
========================
He got me a big book when I was still shaking horribly.
Anonymous
========================
When I go without a meeting my wife knows
and sends me packing.
Anonymous
========================
I put down the alcohol and the
voices got louder, pandemonium. Anonymous
========================
When I came in half measures gave me everything.
Anonymous
==========================
I’m grateful I’m an alcoholic because I can go
anywhere and my people are always there.
Anonymous
==========================
I was buying books about food and mood,
and I still didn’t get it.
Anonymous
==========================
You guys have done a wonderful job of managing my life.
Anonymous
==========================
When I drink liquor I always overshot the mark,
because I drink liquor like I did beer, chug-a-lug.
Anonymous
==========================
He knew what I meant and I knew he knew what I meant.
Anonymous
==========================
Then I begin to wonder if I meant what
he thought I meant that I meant.
Anonymous
==========================
And then I said, ‘you don’t understand my case is different.’
Anonymous
==========================
Then he said, look for the small positive
things in your life, that’s God.
Anonymous
==========================
The dog would see me coming in the door and walk away,
six months later he wagged his tail.
That’s progress, ala-dog.
Anonymous T
==========================
They let me bring on the luggage of my
mind to a more peaceful mind.
Anonymous
==========================
I objectified women, no more, I’m married.
Anonymous
==========================
When he asked me to come, I said yes!
Because I was having a good day.
Later, I went why?
anonymous
==========================
My grandmother became a nun of the third
order and never gave me advice.
She was very spiritual.
Anonymous
==========================
my sponsor with stand in the door talking to people,
and often she would say who wants to join the club?
Anonymous
==========================
When I started being quiet I was able to go back
 to my childhood and I was healed from the past.
Anonymous
==========================
You can tell me anything and I won’t
be able to remember it tomorrow.
Anonymous
==========================
The only way I can honor my late son is to stay sober,
 that’s what he wanted for me.
Anonymous
==========================
I still try to keep things really really simple.
Anonymous
==========================
If you do those things that were suggested life
will get better whether you like it or not.
Anonymous
==========================
I spend a lot of time in the future and my
disease doesn’t want me to speak up.
Anonymous
==========================
No matter who I had to manipulate it was
always about getting that next drink.
Anonymous
==========================
I shat, showered, and shaved and rushed off to the meeting.
Anonymous
==========================
God picked women in my life because
I wasn’t willing to reach out.
Anonymous
==========================
I took a piss in the isle of a grocery store and
the owner said let him go,maybe if he finds out
what he did, he might seek help.
Anonymous
==========================
Hell, hell isn’t as bad as it’s all made out to be.
Anonymous
==========================
If I stop taking my meds they always ask me,
 in alarm, are you taking your meds?
I would wonder how they knew, duh!
Anonymous
==========================
It was the not drinking that I had the problem with.
Anonymous
==========================
If I’m still thinking about it three days later
then something has to be wrong.
Anonymous
==========================
He told me to turn my life over to whatever
 it would take to get out of the idiot mode.
Anonymous
==========================
Don’t let the life AA gave gave you
get in the way of your AA life.
Anonymous
==========================
My family believe that if you’re an alcoholic death is close by.
Anonymous
===========================
In my family booze and drugs ran freely,
it was like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
Anonymous
===========================
I ended up falling into a relationship
I shouldn’t have been in.
Anonymous
===========================
Each time I would go through the steps
I would go through a new level of humility.
Anonymous
===========================
I had to get to this meeting this morning so
my wife wouldn’t commit homicide.

I figured that if I had kids it would make things better,
it did, but I lost all seven of them. Twice.
===========================
I was to lose my kids again. Anonymous
===========================
Today was two years sober I have all my kids back,
all seven of them, and they are all right here right now.
Anonymous
===========================
I asked God to take me where you needed me to be,
not where I wanted to be.
Anonymous
===========================
I’ve trained for 17 years for the pros
and God brought me here instead.
Anonymous
===========================
God makes His own calendar, his own appointments
and has never been late.
Anonymous
===========================
I discovered it was my thinking that got me into trouble.
Anonymous
===========================
I stay in the bubble and once there I can
grow and grow and I don’t have to leave the bubble.
Anonymous
===========================
Once we are here with had too much already.
Anonymous
===========================
The most excitement I get today is when my
phone buzzes in my pocket.
Anonymous
===========================
After three years in the program and
a guy said “you needed help, and by that I mean a sponsor”.
Anonymous
===========================
He said there’s one thing that I can promise
you and that’s if you do the steps your life will change.
Anonymous
===========================
I got sober on an intuitive thought.
The voice said, why don’t you go to AA.
I had never heard of a AA.
Anonymous
===========================
There’s the decision, a prayer and then there’s action.
Anonymous
===========================
The world out there doesn’t change but
my perception of it does.

The best day of your life is when you get custody of your kids,
the worst day is when they show up at your front door.
Anonymous
===========================
A voice said you don’t know what God’s will
for you is but it’s not to lay on your bed and
feel sorry for yourself.
Anonymous
===========================
In 2008 I made a decision, I was through fighting.
Anonymous
===========================
Alcohol became my default in all my issues.
Anonymous

satisfaction out of the world so I could control it.
Anonymous
===========================
I got arrested after having an accident, how is doing
some inappropriate action with a woman while driving.
Anonymous
===========================
When I first saw these steps I rewrote those as Sam sees it.
Anonymous
===========================
He said, in closing as he left, tough s***, don’t drink,
call your sponsor, and help someone else.
Anonymous
===========================
Coming to meetings is the core of my life,
I come here and I’m humbled.
Anonymous
===========================
If I cut my left arm off, or I cut my right arm off,
 I can still drink because all I need to do is get
 alcohol in me through an enema.

is now my present wife.
Anonymous
===========================
I was doing all the things suggested to me but
I was doing them robotically.
So, tonight I will do a much better 10th step.

‘FucketBob’ died this morning.
My first sponsored by of cancer,
 my second sponsor died and
I went to Bob and ask him if
he would be my sponsor, he said
‘I’m not going to be your sponsor,
you’re the kiss of death’.
