If I wasn’t mentally busy I was in a rage all the time,
which still makes no sense, since I’m a nurse.
Anonymous
=======================
I remember saying to myself that if I went
into that room it would mean that I had a problem.
Anonymous
=======================
I was introduced to a group of women by my sponsor,
they would  laugh so hard that they couldn’t get their breath.
Anonymous
=======================
They tell me the three second rule which if
it is going to hurt you, I got it for 3 seconds,
Look Away, Don’t Look Back.
Anonymous
=======================
She said quit arguing with yourself whether
or not you want to get sober. Obviously she said,
it didn’t work, so don’t keep looking back.
Anonymous
=======================
She said you don’t get pregnant because
God hates you, you get pregnant because you had sex.
Anonymous
=======================
I am so grateful to my sponsor who helps
me to translate the world around me.
Anonymous
=======================
If I think I’m too smart to have this alcoholic addiction,
that’s the Trap.
Anonymous
=======================
Even if they don’t have a solution for me, they are in it.

I have a Master’s from Georgetown but I
couldn’t figure this thing out.
Anonymous

=======================
So when I started drinking, the tornadoes broke out.
Anonymous

=======================
When I drank I hung out with the same people every day,
now that I’m sober, I hang out with the same people every day.
Anonymous

=======================
I’m not used to speaking but if I get lost
I know you all will come and get me.

There is just myself, my mother and my grandmother,
we didn’t have money but I had a family who loved to me.
Anonymous

=======================
I brought my school friends home to my
house and they became my family.

=======================
You guys tell me that if I don’t look at myself really
really good then I’ll never see the good in me.
Anonymous

=======================
You guys have shown me how I can fix myself
with my mother, not just her, with others also.
Anonymous

=======================
With you guys I learn how to fix myself,
which is internal.
Anonymous

=======================
For 30 years I was an alcoholic and I didn’t
know how to put a label on it.
You guys have shown me how. Today, I’m an alcoholic.
Anonymous
=======================
I thought I was having fun, getting up, not knowing
where my purse was, or my car or for that matter
where I was, and who I was with.
Anonymous

=======================
I don’t like white-knuckling it so I go to a meeting,
and I’m surprised how well it works for me.
Anonymous

=======================
I knew that there was something wrong with me
but I didn’t know that it was related to my drinking.
Anonymous

By the time I got to meetings at seventeen,
I had been in several mental institutions.
Anonymous
=======================

I was good at going into the actors mode,
hey, everything’s good here.
Anonymous
========================
I said I would just have a couple so I drank the whole six-pack.
Anonymous
========================
 Don’t drink now,I’ll have just one
while I’m not drinking.
I did the only thing I knew,
I drank that one and many many more.

 I was invited to a birthday party for my mom,

 I learned that you can’t walk like
an elephant and defecate like a bird.
Anonymous
========================
It said that AA tells you how to find what
you want in life and shows you how to
stay sober while doing it.
Anonymous
========================
When I was told the rules for the meeting
I still thought, how can I break them?
 I was born in the middle of a pack of nine
 kids and I thought that’s why I became an alcoholic.
Anonymous
========================
I could have a couple drinks and
really get out there and dance.
Anonymous
========================
I prefer drinking out of bottles because the
hole is always in the same place.
Anonymous

On my second day in college I smoked some

I gave up my children in my alcoholism
 and all I wanted was love.
Today they are in my life and I’m very grateful.
Anonymous
========================
Sometimes I have to holler, f**** me God,
I need your help!
Anonymous
========================
At Sand Island Treatment Center they said
to me “just say that you’ve got it”.
Anonymous
========================
I had attribute my program to the
dumbing-down process. I knew it all.
Anonymous
========================
I come here and I am provided with humility and
 if I tell you I’m humble that means that I’m not.
Anonymous
========================
Because I drank a lot and drank all the time,
I never saw I had a necessity for alcohol.
Anonymous
========================
It never occurred to me that having a
12-hour bridal shower was not normal.
Anonymous
========================
As I went along, I felt sorry for my husband,
who had a sort of a brutal childhood.
I still wonder if that’s why he was able to put up with me.
Anonymous
========================
My husband was in detox and it never
occurred to me not to go driving,
not expecting to get a DUI.
Anonymous
========================
At the beginning every night at 5 p.m.
my door was closed and I was sleeping
on the floor trying not to be an Alcoholic.
Anonymous
========================
All of a sudden I’m a foreigner in my own life,
I can’t tell you how I feel but I’m a foreigner.
Anonymous
========================
I said to this woman ‘what do I say when someone
comes over and asked me if I want to drink’
 and she said oh you say no thank you.
Anonymous
========================
It doesn’t mean that I have to jump
in with my opinion, things just are.
Anonymous
========================
I’ve discovered that since I’m sober
I have a conscience.
Anonymous
========================
I was able to take drugs, but once
 I drank I became the poster child for alcoholics.
Anonymous
========================
I’m not the actor or liar I used to be but
once I take a drink I’m gone.
Anonymous

I was dry and it was a living hell.
Anonymous

He kept saying you’ve got it, you’ve got it,
and I said when I want to I will.
Anonymous
========================
My wife sent me to Alcoholics Anonymous,
 I was full of fear, and I had no idea where
 that was coming from.
Anonymous
========================
About 12 minutes after this woman in the
restaurant had gotten her drink and not had a drink
I couldn’t remember anything except in when
I looked at her last she was sipping and that drove me nuts!

========================
My disease followed me around no

I drank Manhattans, got sick, and knew it was the cherries.
Anonymous
========================
And my disease followed me no
 matter where I went, there it was.
Anonymous
========================
I knew that there was a lot of wrong with me
but I didn’t know that it was related to my drinking.
Anonymous
========================
By the time I got to meetings, this at 17,
I’d already been in several mental institutions.
Anonymous
========================
I didn’t really want to get sober,
my life was so unnatural.
Anonymous
========================
I was 23 when I got sober, and at the time
I was renting a corner in a room,
and had found a mattress on the street
 and thought it was cool, New York City you know.
Anonymous
========================
Any minor inconvenience was enough to send me out.
Anonymous
========================
I didn’t understand why no one liked
me and I didn’t like anyone.
Anonymous
========================
I have now been sober for 11 years
and my life is so much different now.

I would rather hear everyone else’s
story instead of mine; because I
grew up in the fellowship.
Anonymous
===========================
I’m a product of Alcoholics Anonymous, my parents met
in the rooms but I had to write my own story.
I was homeless on streets and in jail.
Anonymous
===========================
Somewhere along the line I realized that I had
choices and didn’t want to be picked up and
tossed and jail every time I drank.
Anonymous
===========================
I was having a rough time yesterday and got to a meeting,
I felt much better after that.
Anonymous
===========================
We’re supposed to share what’s happening in

I take on way too much and if I say no,

I want to thank the secretary for asking me to speak today.
It’s always a privilege and an honor to be asked to share my story.
Anonymous

I’m a selfish and self-centered individual but
I decided to go back and apologize.

In school my buddies had the ability to
get drunk and go home. I lacked that ability.
Anonymous
===========================
I woke up in a leg cast, and my mom asked me what I drink.
I said whiskey, and Mom said you can’t drink whiskey,
I’m allergic, your grandfather was allergic, and your father was allergic.
You have to find something else to drink.
I was 14 at the time.
Anonymous
===========================
I called a buddy and he said to me; you’re a miner, and I said what?;
he said you’ll dig and dig and if you don’t hit a rock you’ll keep on digging.
Anonymous
===========================
I thought I couldn’t drink for the rest of my
life and my sponsor said, you’re a 24-hour man,
just do it one day at a time.
Anonymous
===========================
 My sponsor asked if I was going to the Monday
night meeting and I said no I didn’t like that meeting
and he said, I thought you were going to meetings to help someone.

Insanity, prison or suicide.

At school I can hardly wait to go out and get all f***** up.

HEARD AT MEETINGS. MARCH 2017

HEARD AT MEETINGS. MARCH 2017

I was an absolute slave to alcohol.
Anonymous
=====================
I’m still working on my self-seeking.
 Anonymous
=====================
Some days my attitude sucks,
I have to take responsibility and
ask God to take it from me.
Anonymous
=====================
 I don’t think these are extravagant promises,
I think not, I know I saw them working in other
people’s life and they begin to work in mind.
Anonymous
=====================
I have never forgotten those dark days nor do I want to.
Anonymous
=====================
I’ve been married for 30 years so
I’ve been in a double harness for a long time.
Anonymous
=====================
Sometimes I think I’m alone and then
I realize that I have all you people
and God as my sponsor.
Anonymous
=====================
I used to punish myself for what other people did.
Finally I got rid of her, but my two kids suffered the worst.
Anonymous
=====================
 I’m not one of those guys who struggled over Step two.
Anonymous
=====================
If you haven’t considered the fact that you’re an
alcoholic it’s going to get rough before it gets better.
Anonymous
=====================
Being open minded means that I’m teachable.
Anonymous
=====================
Hell, just a plain ordinary life can be rough.
Anonymous
=====================
He asked me if I could go one day
without a drink and I said, I don’t want to drink
I just want to die.
Anonymous
=====================
We ,mean; he said, that when you have an anniversary
 you bring a cake to celebrate the fellowship not you;
it was the program of Alcoholics Anonymous they got you sober.
Anonymous
=====================
They told me I could drink tomorrow, just not today.
Anonymous
=====================
I was tempted on the job to drink and I went outside,
 got on my knees, asked the God of my understanding
 to take away the desire to drink.
Anonymous
=====================
 I know that my worst drinking is in front of me.
Anonymous
=====================
To say the spiritual aspect of the program is like saying
the wet part of the ocean.
anonymous
=====================
Open-mindedness is not mybiggest blockage today.
Anonymous
=====================
 I felt like someone to turned me upside down and all the
dopamine came out.
Anonymous
=====================
 I’m a low-key control freak.
Anonymous
=====================
My doctor said that I had to plan for dialysis,
so I went to the mortuary.
Anonymous
=====================
 I’m here at the behest of others,
 if you want to drink not drinking is the first step.
Anonymous
=====================
 Pride is what we want others to think of us, pride is accepting who we are.
 Anonymous
=====================
Once I started drinking it was at the pedal-to-the-metal until I passed out.
Anonymous
=====================
I had this van;furnished; and never had to drink and drive.

Over the next 15 years I flunked out of some of
the best schools in the country.

You can only stay in college for 15 years then it’s over.

=====================
I remember going to the ballpark years ago and I
 never knew who is playing or who had won.
Anonymous
=====================
when I got drunk and passed out,
as long as you got the ship under way the next day everything was okay.
Anonymous
=====================
I always made up irrational excuses to suit me, not my commander.
Anonymous
=====================
Why don’t you pray to ‘whom it may concern’,
God doesn’t care what you call Him.
Anonymous
=====================
Just get sober and use everyone else to help you get there.
Anonymous
=====================
My dad  took me to see Ninja Turtles ,
the movie; and then when we got home he said
‘sit down and send your mind out into the world.’
I fell asleep. I always thought that was meditation.
Anonymous
=====================
 My mom, who had 22 years sober, kicked me out of the house,
she said  she was not going to have drugs and alcohol in the house.
Anonymous
=====================
That same evening that I got my face smashed in with a ball bat.

said it suggested that I text God. I said,
‘I can do that?’

we can do that.
Anonymous

He said, I need you to be honest with yourself,
transparency equals honesty.
Anonymous
=====================
 It’s a process and it’s not always pretty,
guess I don’t have to have that.
Anonymous
=====================
 At 13 I had my first drink and was
an alcoholic right at the start.
Anonymous
=====================
 As a child I would spend my life reading books and
they had a party and the waiter said here have a drink,
it will make a man out of you.
Anonymous
=====================
The next day all the cool people said
 ‘wow! You were the life of the party last night.
Anonymous
=====================
 I was kicked out of every school I went to after that.
Anonymous
=====================
My line was I work, I drink I screw.
Anonymous T
=====================
They would tell stories about me which always ended
up with me being taken away to the local jail.
Anonymous
=====================
 Actually, I had my own cell. Anonymous
=====================
 When they brought me to the Jail, the Jailer always said,
‘you know where to go’ and I would go into my cell.
Anonymous
=====================
 I was having grand mal seizures every day just walking down the street.
Anonymous
=====================
I stood in front of the judge that I had gone to school with and he said,
your brother wants to take you to New York.
We don’t want you dying on our streets’.
Anonymous
=====================
 To be able to work a whole shift was just a miracle to me.

 I said ‘ hell no, I don’t want my neighbors to see me there.’
She said, ‘maybe you’ll meet some of your neighbors there’

an open mind.
