God grant me the serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And the Wisdom to know the difference.
We were now at Step Three.
 Many of us said to our Maker, as we understood Him:
“God, I offer myself to Thee – to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the
bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them
may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy

We thought well before taking this step making sure we were ready; that we could at last abandon
ourselves utterly to Him.
Seventh Step Prayer
-The Seventh Step Prayer is from page 76. The Big Book
   When ready, we say something like this:
“My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now
remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you
and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen.”
We have then completed Step Seven.

that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.

Expectancy speeds progress. Therefore, live in a continual state of expectancy. No matter how much good you are experiencing today, expect greater good tomorrow. Expect to meet new friends. Expect to meet new and wonderful experiences. Try this magic of expectancy and you will soon discover a dramatic side to your work which gives full vent to constructive feeling.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 197 Insights
“It can be but my gratitude I earn.”
Ingratitude is another word for unforgiveness. The whole ego thought system came from ingratitude for God’s gift of all His Love. It was wanting more than everything. When I have been able to truly forgive a brother, when I recognize no harm occurred, my heart overflows with gratitude. The space resentment had taken in my mind is freed to receive the gift of Love. With Love, gratitude is inevitable, for it is an aspect of Love.

When I experience pain, whether it be emotional or physical, it reflects ingratitude and unforgiveness. I do not need to earn God’s gratitude, for His gratitude for His extension, which is my Self, has never ceased. But I do need to earn my own gratitude through forgiveness. Without my gratitude, I can neither recognize nor accept God’s. One of the central themes of the Course is that we perceive God as we perceive ourselves. So if I have ingratitude, I will believe God is not grateful for me. Because I believe I can withhold Love and do withhold it when I am not grateful, I believe God withholds His Love when I perceive Him as ungrateful.

To earn my gratitude, I must recognize my unforgivenesses and offer them to the Holy Spirit so He can help me recognize them for the illusions they are. With His help I can release these illusions and make room for the gratitude that is innate in my Self.

Holy Spirit, I ask your help to recognize unforgiveness so I may let it go.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 188 Insights
“The peace of God is shining in me now.”
When I close my eyes and focus on the peace of God within me, I see a different world. I don’t see conflict or threats I believe can bring me harm. I see the Love of God in my brother. I see his innocence. If his behavior does not reflect that Love and innocence, I recognize it as a call for Love.

Rather than reacting with defensiveness to protect my image of myself, the peace within me opens my mind to the guidance of Holy Spirit, the Light within me. This Light shows me how to answer the call for Love in a way that reduces guilt and helps my brother recognize the Love that has always been his, as well as mine. On my own, I have no idea what would be truly helpful. But as I acknowledge the peace of God shining within me, what is helpful is revealed to me through a vision that sees far beyond the limited scope I have allowed myself.

This serves a dual teaching function. It teaches my brother he is Love and worthy of Love. At the same time it teaches me that within me I have a vision that sees far beyond the images of this world. It teaches me the power of peace. It teaches me What I am, reminding me of my Source.

As long as I think I am alone, I see a world divided and lacking Love. But as I focus on the peace of God shining in me, individuality fades, divisions soften and I begin to feel my brother as part of me. Bringing my attention to the peace of God shining in me now is a great gift that overflows from my heart. It cannot be contained, for by its nature, it reaches out to all, including all in its Love. It is this I would learn today, that I might receive the world’s blessing and know we are one.

As I let my thoughts fly to the peace of God within, I am led to Christ’s vision. This inner vision is quiet and full of peace. It needs nothing but to accept one communal Identity as what is real in truth. This internal vision sees the peace of God in everyone and recognizes the universality of Love. This inner vision is filled with contentment and happiness, for there is no conflict here. There is no lack here. There is no death and suffering here. This inner vision only remembers the truth of one universal Identity. It recognizes that nothing else really matters because nothing else is real. This inward vision rests in its Source and does not choose to make dreams of isolation and aloneness real. This inward vision is content to be Itself as It was created and extend the peace, love and joy that It is to all the rest of Its one Self.

Today I am willing to let my thoughts fly to this inward vision and feel the peace of God. I am willing to let my mind quiet and remember the truth today.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 189 Insights
“I feel the Love of God within me now.”
This lesson is an extension of one of the very first lessons which taught us that we don’t know what anything means. If I can wholly embrace the idea that I don’t know what anything means, then I can come to the Holy Spirit with a wholly open mind. It is my cherished beliefs (the meanings I give things) that stand in the way of knowing the Love of God is already within me, shining with the brilliance of innocence and peace.

The Light of God is already within me. It has never left me and I have never left It. Only my denial of It, my belief that anything could be apart from or other than the Love of God, stands between me and my awareness of the Love of God shining within me eternally. His Love abides in me and my Self returns the Love in gratitude and joy. This circle of Love continues unabated within me, no matter what images I may make up that hide It from me. The Love of God is shining in me now. I don’t have to wait for It to happen. I need only remove the barriers to my awareness of It.

I am grateful I have the means within my confused and delusional mind to find my way out, to return to my natural state as Love created me. The Holy Spirit in my mind recognizes the confusion in my mind but does not believe any of it, so He can bring full awareness of God’s Love to my split mind. He can use the images and false ideas I hold for His own purpose to lead me back Home to the Heaven I never left in truth.

My job now is to practice again and again and again, turning everything I believe I see over to Him with an open mind to receive His perception. He will show me the innocence behind the behavior, the Light that is ever present in the darkness, the Love beyond the fear. As I open to His vision, I receive the miracle of Love. And I embrace the world with Its blessing.
In this lesson, Jesus shows me what my part is. He says, “Your part is simply to allow all obstacles that you have interposed between the Son and God the Father to be quietly removed forever.” (8:3) This means I am not the one to remove the obstacles. My job is to open my mind to God to let them be removed. My job is to be willing to let God, Which is Love, into my mind. When I open the door to Love, Love does the rest. Love knows what to do, I don’t.

My willingness to open up to God is what brings me the experience of God’s Love. I can tell how much I am opening up to God by what I feel within. If I don’t feel God’s Love, then I must still be holding on to ego’s values, ego’s priorities, ego’s thoughts. It is my willingness to open up to let the false values and priorities be removed that allows them to be replaced by God’s Love. I must learn to hold on to nothing. I must open to God’s Love with empty hands and an open heart. If I want to see the real world, I must first let God into my mind. “You will look upon that which you feel within.” (5:3)

The following is a prayer that came to me as I asked for help with my willingness: Dear God, I have joined with the values of separation, and now I choose to return to the awareness of Your ever-present Love. I have wandered in the wilderness of separation, thinking it real and have been frightened and confused by my choice to join with ego thinking.

I realize now what is truly important above all things is opening to Your ever-present Love. I consciously choose that now. I let my mind quiet, because I would have it be so. I allow the feeling of Your ever-present Love to return to my awareness. I would not keep my mind closed to Your eternal Presence. Your Love is in me and surrounds me always. Your Love is all that is real. I accept It and allow myself to feel It now. Amen.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 190 Insights
“I choose the joy of God instead of pain.”
To me this lesson is about responsibility. It makes it very clear that everything I think I experience is because of my own choice. Much of my life I lived believing things happened to me that I had nothing to do with. This lesson is teaching me I am responsible for what I see and what I feel for everything I experience.

The title implies I have chosen pain. In case I miss the point in the title, he explains in specific detail that fear and pain are my choice. But I have another choice. I can choose instead the joy of God, the peace of Heaven. And most importantly, the choice for the joy of God is the choice for reality instead of illusion.

All I really need do is lay down the self denial that has made illusions seem real. The moment I do this, the reality of the joy and peace of God rushes in to fill the space made empty by laying down illusions. I don’t have to work to become worthy of God’s joy. I don’t have to jump through hoops to please God in order to receive His joy. I need only lay down the illusions that block my awareness of the joy that is always there.

It cannot really be hard to let go of nothing in order to receive everything. What makes it seem hard is my unwillingness to recognize nothingness for what it is. This unwillingness comes from identifying with a self image made up of nothingness. It seems that if I give up my belief in it, I will lose my identity and everything of value. This is the effect of misplaced values. In fact, the whole world is the effect of misplaced values. The moment I value reality more than illusion, I will experience reality. I will experience the joy of God.

Holy Spirit, help me recognize my misplaced values today. Help me see their nothingness so I can lay them down. Help me see the treasure given me by my Creator and mine for eternity. Help me see Love everywhere. This is the treasure I seek and would offer in every moment. Thank You for Your support.

I ask myself, “Why have I believed in the existence of pain and death? What attracts me to believe in bodily illusions instead of the truth that I am still in the Mind of God? What attracts me to believe that I or anyone can be hurt? What is the payoff for believing in what is not true?” I take this to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit shares:

Love is all powerful. Love is What you are. This is your Identity. You cannot leave your Identity. God’s Will is your Will. There is only one Will. Thinking there is something other than the Will of Love is the cause of all pain. There is nothing other than the Will of Love and therefore pain is illusion.

The only thing to do with illusions is to lay them down because they are not true. You cannot fix illusions or make them better. What really works is to just give them up, let them go. They are not real. They are thoughts of being unlike God. God is not special or different. God is universal Oneness. God gives all Love to All of Itself. That is What you are for eternity.

Being willing to lift the veil of illusions is what cures all pain and sorrow. Being open to the Truth of your Identity as Love removes all belief in weakness, loss and pain. Practice this today.

“We sometimes hurt those we love because they need to be “taught a lesson,” when we really want to punish. We were depressed and complained we felt bad, when in fact we were mainly asking for sympathy and attention. This odd trait of mind and emotion, this perverse wish to hide a bad motive underneath a good one, permeates human affairs from top to bottom. This subtle and elusive kind of self-righteousness can underlie the smallest act or thought. Learning daily to spot, admit, and correct these flaws is the essence of character-building and good living. ACIM Workbook Lesson 191 Insights
“I am the holy Son of God Himself.”
Today’s lesson is another step in the complete reversal of all I have thought is true. “I am the holy Son of God Himself.” This is definitely not the way I thought of myself. The list of all the forms of lovelessness given in the first paragraph, last sentence, is more in line with what I have been used to seeing. Yet I am learning this is only the effect of denying my Identity.

On a feeling level, there has always been a faint glimmer, deep in the recesses of my mind that the world I experienced and the identity I believed was me was not really true. It comes with great relief and a joyous “I knew it!” to read this lesson. I feel it releasing me from the pain of a loveless identity. I feel it resonating in my heart with a song of joy. That faint glimmer is fanned into an ever brightening flame each time I affirm, “I am the holy Son of God Himself.”

I feel the relief of recognition of what is true and release from a false identity that never could be true. I walk with a lighter step and a gentle smile on my face. I look on a more benevolent world. The gratitude I feel reaches out in blessing to all and comes back to me magnified a thousand times. The Light in me recognizes the Light in you and we join together in our Creator, our Source. And I remember I am as Love created me.

Today’s lesson is about what the whole Course is about — helping and encouraging us to accept our true Identity as an extension of Love. “You are as God created you. All else but this one thing is folly to believe.” (4:2-3)

I see it is my job to watch my thoughts and look at what I am believing as I go through my day today and every day. Am I remembering all power is given to me in earth and Heaven? Am I remembering there is nothing I cannot do? Or am I playing the game of being weak and frail? Am I thinking I am helpless?

The way out of the dream is to see the barriers I am placing in the way of my recognition that my true Identity is an extension of Love and nothing else. And these barriers come in the form of placing my beliefs in limiting thoughts. Am I accepting limitation as true this minute? How are my thoughts denying my Identity as a Son of God?

Today’s lesson gets to the core of awakening. It gets to the core of how to free myself from thoughts that deny my Identity. It teaches me to reverse my thinking. It teaches me to refuse to believe in the games of limitation I have accepted as true. Practicing this lesson helps me let go of the bondage of a world that is trying to be the opposite of God. In order to do this, I must be willing to quiet my busy mind frequently through the day and let my mind be filled with the truth of my Identity as an extension of Love. “I am the holy Son of God Himself.”

This is such an incredible lesson and I feel grateful as I realize I am willing to believe it. When I read it the first time, I could not even bring myself to say it out loud! My resistance was so strong that I could barely understand what I was reading. Over time, I have lessened my resistance and today as I read it I was filled with joy. I don’t fully accept it as true, but now my resistance is more of a, “I don’t fully accept it — now,” variety. I recognize I want it and I can envision it happening. I can see the blocks to full acceptance and am glad to work on releasing them.

This morning Holy Spirit showed me one of the blocks I need to release. During my meditation I started thinking about an error I made awhile back and was surprised at how much I was still bothered by it. Later while I was dressing I thought of something else that happened yesterday and was irritated all over again. When this happened a third time, I got the hint. I thought about the passage in another lesson that assures us Holy Spirit cannot be delayed in His teaching by our errors, only in our unwillingness to let them go. I thanked Holy Spirit for helping me to see what I was doing and asked His help in releasing the past.

“As we go through the day we pause, when agitated or doubtful, and ask for the right thought or action. We constantly remind ourselves we are no longer running the show, humbly saying to ourselves many times each day “Thy will be done.” We are then in much less danger of excitement, fear, anger, worry, self-pity, or foolish decisions. We become much more efficient. We do not tire so easily, for we are not burning up energy foolishly as we did when we were trying to arrange life to suit ourselves.”

ACIM Workbook Lesson 192 Insights
“I have a function God would have me fill.”
Forgiveness is letting go of illusions. Letting illusions be undone is my function here. To do this, I must be willing to step back from ego thoughts and create an open space where the Holy Spirit can shine a light on the illusions and show me they are false ideas. This helps me remove my belief from these false perceptions.

As my belief in the perceptions of the world are removed, I am able to see the eternal truth that lies beyond them. I am able to see nothing has changed. The Light of God is still there as God created It — pure, whole and complete. The Love and peace of God is still radiating, uninterrupted by the false stories of separation.

It is only when I am willing to let illusions disappear that the Holy Spirit can bring the Light of truth into my mind. That is why forgiveness is so important to me now and why it is my one function. I desire to return to the truth. I desire to let illusions go. And this desire, this openness to the Holy Spirit to let the Light of truth shine illusions away, is what brings me freedom from the bondage of the ego.

Because I have joined with the ego, the illusions have appeared very real and at times have been very fearful. Now I am open to a complete thought reversal. Time now is for the purpose of letting illusions go that I may be an instrument of freedom instead of bondage. Now is the time. I need not wait. Why prolong suffering? Why delay freedom? The time is now to open to the Holy Spirit to let illusions be undone. Forgiveness is my function here.

As the importance I place on things in this world diminishes, I experience greater and greater happiness and peace. Before I started working with the Course I thought happiness and peace came from having things like a secure job, a nice house and a loving relationship. Yet the secure job was never as secure as I wanted it to be which meant that the nice house might not always be available to me. The relationship had its ups and downs. Sometimes I was carrying a chip on my shoulder, which put the relationship on edge.

Now as I have softened the importance I place on these things, I feel more secure than I have ever felt. I live in a nice home, but I also know my home would be nice, no matter what its form. My loving relationships are more consistent, open and full. Occasionally I still put the chip back on my shoulder, but its smaller and easy to dust off. Without that defensiveness I can receive the love that is offered and appreciate it with gratitude and joy.

All this comes with letting illusions go, with forgiveness. And while my heart is filled with gratitude for the gifts I have received, I know there is much more that has been given me which I have not yet accepted. Forgiveness, letting illusions disappear, opens my mind to receive the treasures God has stored for me, awaiting my acceptance.

Thank You God, for Your grace and Your Love, which never ends and forever offers me Light to see my innocence and the innocence of everyone. Thank You for putting Your Light in my mind to help me dispel the darkness and find my way Home.

This is one of those lessons that has really stuck with me over the years, even from the first time I read it. What stands out to me is, “Using reason to justify our rage and attack.” (7:2) I can so identify with that. “A jailer is not free, for he is bound together with his prisoner.” (8:3) The first time I read that, it placed a clear picture in my mind I have never lost.

What has changed over the years is my understanding of what attack and rage are. I’ve learned that a slight irritation is just my attempt to mask the rage I feel, and as for attack… . There are so many ways to attack and so many ways to attack that I mask as love.

I never really understood what forgiveness meant and even now am refining my understanding of that action every day. I feel such gratitude for the Course, for Pathways of Light, and for the dear people I have met through it. My life has so changed and what I want most is the chance to give this to others through forgiveness and love. I thank God for every opportunity to teach forgiveness and I am so grateful He is patient with my errors and my lapses.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 184 Insights
“The Name of God is my inheritance.”
Names are how we identify things. So when I affirm the Name of God is my inheritance, I am affirming God’s Identity is mine. I share His Identity and all His attributes. The Identity of God is my Inheritance. This Identity seems very different than the identity I have been accustomed to thinking is me. I am not the body with a name people call it. I am not the body’s behavior or its collection of experiences during its “life.” My body’s family history has nothing to do with my Identity.

My true Identity I share with God. This Identity is my own. It is the acceptance of my inheritance, my true Identity, that frees me from all the limits of identifying myself as a separate entity with a separate mind that thinks private thoughts. My Identity is Love, because God is Love and I have inherited His Identity.

When I think or act without Love, it is only because I have mistaken my identity. I believe I am separate and alone. It is only in believing this that I could imagine I am without Love, unloving or unlovable. It is this mistaken belief that needs correcting.

As I focus on the idea that the Identity of God is my inheritance, it begins to gradually dissolve this mistaken belief. At first it seems nothing is happening, but with continued diligence and practice, this hardened belief begins to soften around the edges. What seemed unquestionable starts being raised to doubt. The certainty of the belief weakens and my mind begins to open to the possibility of another vision, another perception. Now the door begins to open to the recognition of my true Identity. I am profoundly grateful for these lessons, which are opening the way for me to see my unity with all my brothers in the unity of God, in the unity of Love.

The part of the lesson that stands out to me the most is, “And yet His Name becomes the final lesson that all things are one, and at this lesson does all learning end.” So now, my job is to learn the lesson of oneness, to learn all names are unified. My job now is to see past the separate names to the one Name of God That is everyone’s true Identity.

Applying this lesson seems very difficult at times and the ego would tell me to give up trying because it is impossible. The Holy Spirit tells me this is the only meaningful lesson for me to learn and no one can fail who truly seeks to return to the oneness of God. The oneness of God lies beyond all the false images of separate bodies. God’s Oneness is the only thing that is true.

The way to learn this lesson that is helpful for me is to keep a close connection with the Holy Spirit all through the day. I ask, what is my level of peace? What is my level of joy? These are the effects of my connection with Holy Spirit. If I am not feeling peace, then it becomes a signal for me to return to peace, which comes from the Holy Spirit in my mind.

The Holy Spirit will help me see past separate bodies and find the one Name of God behind all the illusions of separation. The Holy Spirit brings my mind to truth and reminds me illusions are not real. They are simply illusions of separation and nothing more. The Holy Spirit reminds me not to give them meaning. As I remove the meaning I have given these symbols of separation, the One Identity That lies behind them comes more clearly into focus.

At this stage, this lesson from the Holy Spirit takes diligence and much practice. Many times I forget and make illusions real again. Then I lose my sense of peace, joy and inner happiness. This becomes the signal again to return to the lessons the Holy Spirit has to teach me, the lesson of oneness.

This one lesson is all I need to receive. This one lesson is all I need to give. We are all one Identity. We have only one Name and That is the name of our Father.

Applying this lesson does indeed seem difficult. I can’t give up trying because then where would that leave me? There is no other place to go, is there?

I have been thinking today how hard I have resisted these lessons. This resistance has been going on for a long time. It is not nearly as strong as it used to be, so I can definitely see progress. But I still resist. I think my resistance is the only thing impeding my progress. I believe the Course is a perfect and certain way out of the world that I have made. I think being free of this illusion is the only thing worth striving for. And still I resist. It is hard to fathom.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 186 Insights

“Salvation of the world depends on me.”
A sentence that stands out to me is, “Yet are the humble free to hear the Voice Which tells them what they are and what to do… You are not weak as is the image of yourself. You are not ignorant and helpless.”

If I feel I am ignorant and helpless or weak, I am playing dumb. It is really arrogance to try to change what I really am. My true Self will guide me out of belief in weakness and limitation if I am willing to receive the help. That is my job today — to be willing to receive the help.

As I open to the help of the Holy Spirit, I am led to receive God’s gifts which are peace, love and joy. If I am anxious or sad or disgruntled, I am refusing to receive God’s gifts. I would now let my mind quiet of all the ego’s chatter and open up my mind to the Holy Spirit. I would rest in the peace that is there. I would receive the Holy Spirit’s thoughts, which encourage me to lay ego thoughts down. The Light of God is all I am in truth. The Light of God is what everyone is in truth.

Am I willing to see the truth today? I will be able to tell by how much peace and happiness I feel. Forgiveness is my function here. Through forgiveness I am the salvation of the world.
I cannot know freedom until every thought of unforgiveness has been cleared from my mind. Unforgiveness turns me into a jailer and the jailer is always bound to the prisoner. Without the jailer the prisoner is free. And without the prisoner, the jailer is free. As I let go of condemnation, of refusal to accept God’s gifts to me, I am released. I am free to be my Self as I was created.

Salvation could be defined as release from bondage. The world’s release from bondage depends upon my releasing it. It is only my mistaken belief in made up images of isolation and independence from my Source that holds the world in isolation and and makes it a substitute for the eternal and all encompassing Love of God. Salvation is not about blame. It is about the recognition of where the source of bondage is and hence is the source of release. The limited images of the world are only in my mind and it can only be released in my mind.

The experiences I have had in which I completely forgave a perceived wrong brought me profound peace. I breathed a deep sigh of relief. I felt lighter, happier. Love grew stronger in my heart. All this came from a change in my mind. Nothing external changed except my perception of it. This is why salvation of the world depends on me.

The ego would like to characterize this as a burden. But this statement brings me the recognition of the power of my mind to be healed and to heal. It is a declaration of independence from the ego and a recognition that my complete freedom lies in my total dependence on my unity with my Creator. The Holy Spirit celebrates with us each time we take another step toward freedom through forgiveness.
I think that the most important lines in this lesson are the last ones. “Salvation of the world depends on you who can forgive.” I think that if I remember what forgiveness really means (as opposed to the world’s definition), and choose forgiveness at each opportunity, I wouldn’t need anything else, not even the Course. The thing is, my resistance to forgiveness is strong. It is too late for me to pretend I don’t know what forgiveness is and what is called for, so I complicate the simple and tell myself I can’t figure out what’s going on.

I did this when I read the first line of this lesson. My first thought was “Oh, poor world if it is depending on me to save it.” I thought about all the little things I can’t seem to do, all the mistakes I seem to make. Obviously Jesus expects that reaction because he goes on to encourage us and to answer those fears and objections. Still, as I read I kept thinking how impossible it all seems. How do I do this or that? What about all these other things? When I got to the last lines it was like a cool summer shower washing away the cobwebs of confusion. So simple.

I already know how to do this! I am just committing to giving this action priority in my life. I am accepting that it is, indeed, possible for me to forgive in every instance. Not only possible, but the reason I am here. My purpose. Not only that, it is a purpose I am assured of completing because it is a purpose God has blessed.

You are going to have a lot of joy sailing around this world of yours. Don’t fight the opinions of others, or waste your time arguing over these things. ACIM Workbook Lesson 187 Insights
“I bless the world because I bless myself.”
One of the most significant sentences in this lesson to me is, “Illusion recognized must disappear.” (7:1) It is only my belief in pain and loss, sickness and death, that keeps it in place. As I remove my belief from these ideas, they must disappear. “Illusion recognized must disappear.” In hypnotherapy training we learned that belief is what holds experience in place. So now my job is to recognize the beliefs which are the opposite of God’s oneness and with the help of the Holy Spirit, let them go. Not because of sacrifice but because they are not true.

It is helpful to ask myself, “What beliefs am I holding on to that are not true? Holy Spirit help me recognize these beliefs. Shine Your light on them and they will fall away.” And we can look at those false beliefs with gentle laughter. I can then see that I do not need these silly beliefs. They do not help me and never did.

I thought I wanted separation. I thought it would bring me something that I wanted. I thought it would bring me something more than I already had. I thought it would be an exciting new adventure. But the truth is I still remain as part of God and never left. This recognition is a blessing to myself, and as I bless myself, I bless the world because I know the same truth is about my brother also.

We are all still enfolded and encompassed in God’s Love. Everyone’s Identity is still Love as part of God. As in a hologram, every part contains the whole. This is God’s blessing and it remains eternally true. “Illusion recognized must disappear.” I don’t have to accept suffering because it is simply a false idea not to be taken seriously.

Today I would let myself soak in the remembrance of everyone’s oneness in God’s Love. Like taking a comforting soak in a hot tub, today I will soak in the healing waters of remembering the truth of our oneness. What a happy day to have this opportunity to receive and give this remembrance of the truth.

It is our oneness with all things that makes it possible for us to bring salvation and blessing to the world. That means whenever a brother extends a loving thought to anyone, I am blessed, even as he blesses himself with the thought. The only gift I can really give is Love because only Love is real. Love only increases in the giving. It is the only thought there is in truth. We each are a thought of Love in the mind of Love. That is why I bless the world because I bless myself.

In this world Love’s reflection is forgiveness, seeing the innocence in all my brothers, letting go of the past, letting go of the belief in separation. Each time I have a thought of forgiveness, whatever form it may take, I bless the world because I bless myself.

Today is a good day for me to work on recognizing illusion so it can disappear. I have a lot of quiet work to do which allows my mind to wander and it is always interesting to see where it wanders. Each time I notice it wandering into illusion, I ask Holy Spirit to look at it with me and heal that place in my life. Can it really be so simple? Yes, I think it can. It is ego that makes everything seem complicated.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 172 Insights
Review: “God is but Love, and therefore so am I.”
“In my defenselessness my safety lies. I am among the ministers of God.”
My practice now is opening to the truth. The truth is that all is Love. My body’s eyes do not show me this. But I am quietly learning to look past the separate body to the one Love that is always there.

I am going through a daily mind retraining process. My ideas about individuality, vulnerability, time and space are being undone. I am learning that only the holy instant is eternally true. Only God, Which is Love, is true. The rest is a dream and it is false.

Only the Holy Spirit in my mind can show me the difference between what is real and what is unreal. This is an ongoing process. Each day I practice having a clean and open mind. I practice opening a space for the Holy Spirit. I practice letting the Light of the Holy Spirit heal my conflicted mind. I practice being open to receive the truth. I come back to remembering only God’s eternal changeless Love is real.

I may forget again and again, but now I know the path to freedom, and it is a return to joining with the Holy Spirit to have my false ideas be undone once again. That is all time is for. My practice of seeing my brothers as Love and nothing else is very important to me now. It strengthens my remembering. It strengthens my return to Love.

Only Love has ever been real at all. The rest is just silly illusions and mean nothing. Today I would rather be happy than right. Today I would practice stepping back and leaving space for the Holy Spirit so that my mind can be healed again of another false idea.

If I am to know my Self as Love, I have to give up the denial of Love. Defensiveness denies Love, for it sets me apart with the idea that I am separate from my brother. Defenselessness acknowledges the one Self I share with all my brothers. There is no need to defend against what is one with me. If I would know my Self, I cannot hold resentments against a brother. I cannot judge anyone as different from me. I cannot equate myself with a weak and vulnerable body, born to die. I cannot perceive myself as vulnerable to destructive outside forces. All these deny that I am Love as God is.

As I give up denial of my Self, I begin to feel It’s certainty, the peace that comes with knowing there is no ‘other’ to defend against, nothing outside me that can harm me in any way. I settle into a serene and deep inner peace. I open to the Light of Love that has always been What I am.

As I walk the world, holding this more strongly in my awareness, I am a minister of God. No preaching is necessary. I need only live in harmony with my Self. I then see past my brother’s illusions to the Love in him I share. I see his innocence reflects my own. I see the holiness in him comes from the one Self we are.

Today I practice bringing all disturbances to my peace of mind to the Holy Spirit for His gentle correction. Thus is my Self revealed to me. Defenses are laid down and I bring peace wherever I go. From Love I was created and to Love I return.

The mind is a magnet and we attract that with which we identify the self. In order to get the most out of life we must learn consciously to change many of our habitual thought patterns. This is not easy, for our old thought patterns cling to us with great tenacity, but, being thought patterns, they can be reversed. If you are filled with fear, refill yourself with faith, for faith always overcomes fear.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 173 Insights
Review: “God is but Love, and therefore so am I.”
“I will step back and let Him lead the way. I walk with God in perfect holiness.”
In every moment I have a choice. Do I want to join with the ego like a rebellious teenager, stepping out on my own, rejecting God’s Will and doing it my way? Or do I want to accept God’s Will as my own, share His perfect holiness and thereby share His perfect happiness? The world I see with the body’s eyes is the effect of choosing the first option. I receive Heaven with the second option.

The attraction of the first option is the belief that somehow it is possible to have more than Heaven. Put in these terms, the idea seems insane, and it is. But the wish for specialness, to be different and unique, to have something I can call my own, is the belief that it is possible to have more than everything, more than Heaven.

If I look honestly at all the times I feel defensive or vulnerable, it is always because I perceive some aspect of my specialness is threatened. If I take offense, if I resent, if I judge, it all comes from the wish to maintain specialness. Specialness comes with a high price. To maintain the illusion of specialness, I must deny God’s Love for me. I must deny the happiness and holiness that are His gifts to me. I must deny His strength and thus I cannot experience His peace, for certainty is gone.

The more I can remember this high cost each time I judge, fear, resent or feel vulnerable in any way, the more I can remind myself there is another choice. I can accept God’s gifts, long since given. I can claim His strength, His Love, His joy and peace. I need only step back, accept His Will as my own and let Him lead the way. When I accept His Will as mine, I do indeed walk with Him in perfect holiness. Here is peace and absolute certainty. Today let me remember I share God’s Will for me and know His Love.

Everyone in this world who looks out through the body’s eyes and believes in a world of separate identities has lost sight of their one true Identity. They have lost sight of their Source, which is universal Love. The whole physical universe is an effect of losing sight of our Identity, our true Nature as one in Love. We have lost sight of What we are and Where we are. We are living in a dream world that is the opposite in every way of our true Identity. The way out of this mistaken perception is to step back and ask the Holy Spirit to return to our awareness. The Holy Spirit is always there, but we often don’t pay attention to It.

In order to hear the Holy Spirit, I must quiet my busy mind and leave an open space. I must be open and receptive to hearing Its Voice. I must not think that I already know. I must want to receive the Light of the Holy Spirit.

What the Holy Spirit brings is the opposite of the world of separation. It brings the truth of my Identity. It reminds me that behind the images of this world is formless universal Love. Nothing is broken into pieces here. There is only wholeness, oneness. Nothing is divided or different. Nothing is special and unique. All is one. All is Love. All is God. The Holy Spirit reminds me that this is my true Identity and it is everyone’s true Identity. Everyone walks with God in perfect holiness because that is the only reality that is true. Anything else consists only of dreams that are not real and mean nothing. The only way for me to know this is to step back and let Him lead the way.

Today my practice is to step back and open my mind to the Holy Spirit again and again. It is only in this way that I will be led to the awareness of what is true always. God is but Love and therefore so am I. God is but Love and therefore so is everyone in this world. Let me step back today and remember the truth.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 174 Insights
Review: “God is but Love and therefore so am I.”
“Into His Presence would I enter now. Today I learn to give as I receive.”
“Into His Presence would I enter now” is another way of saying I would accept His Presence now. We are completely surrounded by and in God’s Love. It’s only our denial of His Love that makes It seem like we need to enter into It.

Here we are, completely immersed in Love, yet we wander the world seeking for love. It is because, in our desire for specialness, we try to keep some love for ourselves alone. This is the insane wish to have more than everything. Because Love by its nature must be extended, to know we are in Love’s Presence, we must give or share God’s Love. Trying to keep God’s Love for ourselves blocks our awareness of having and being It. That is why we need to learn to give as we receive.I enter into Love’s Presence by giving Love. Giving Love shows me that I have Love and am Love. Love is never depleted by giving It away. It is only expanded. To experience God’s Love flowing through me, I must remove the barriers to that flow. The barriers are judgment and guilt. Thus forgiveness is the means by which I enter into His Presence. In this world forgiveness is received by giving it. So forgiveness is Love’s reflection in this world. It opens my mind to become aware of God’s Presence.

Today I ask Holy Spirit’s help to recognize the barriers I put up against Love and to let them go so I may enter into His Presence and give as I receive.

Opening my mind to Love’s Presence is what the Course is all about. Opening my mind to the truth is opening my mind to God’s Love and my true Identity. I cannot open my mind and still have a closed mind. I cannot do both at the same time. It is either one or the other. Separation is the opposite of oneness. When I open my mind to seeing separation, my mind is closed to seeing Love’s oneness. When I open my mind to Love’s oneness, separation disappears. What I open my mind to is what I give.Today my practice is to open my mind to the truth, to Love’s oneness, Love’s peace, Love’s kind and gentle ways. How willing am I to open to Love’s oneness today? It is my decision moment by moment. What do I think I am? It is my decision moment by moment. Today my practice is to open to Love’s Presence again and again until it becomes a consistent habit.

The world of separation seems so familiar that I find myself slipping back into separation’s old and tired ways far too often. Thank goodness I have Holy Spirit right there in my mind to help me return to being aware of Love’s Presence, Love’s peace and Love’s joy.

Today I would practice opening to the truth. Love’s Presence is always there waiting for my willingness to return to the truth. Today I would give as I receive. I am determined to receive God’s gifts and in the process of receiving, give them away.

Today I rejoice because I just realized I’m finally beginning to accept the fact that I don’t need to go wandering endlessly looking for something I not only have, but I am, which is Love — and that is everything.

We do have an insane wish to have more than everything, but our definition of everything is money, looks, material things, and an endless list of nothingness of which there is no guarantee.

Today I rejoice because I know in my heart my Heavenly Father’s Love is guaranteed by my Heavenly Father Himself and that’s all I want and need. Today I open myself to receive my Father’s gift of Love and to give that Love to my brothers and sisters in abundance, the way it is given to me.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for guiding me. Thank you, Jesus, for standing by me. Thank you, Father, for loving me, especially when I couldn’t love myself. Amen

“The truth , when it arrives is always different from what we thought it would be..if we imagine that we already know the truth, that imaginations based on old and habitual ideas. But the truth is always something entirely new to the mind; so we cannot possibly imagine it. Just as we cannot know what a new day is like before we experience it, we cannot think accurately about a new truth until we first live it. As we dare to drop our conditioned opinions, we make room for the truth…”

God grant me the serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And the Wisdom to know the difference.
May I do Thy
will always!”

“Lord, make me a channel of they peace,
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.”

ACIM Workbook Lesson 175 Insights
Review: “God is but Love and therefore so am I.”
“I give the miracles I have received. I am at home. Fear is the stranger here.”
Which self will I identify with today — the false self or the real Self which is Love? Which self will I think is real today? If I identify with the false self, I will think that I have private thoughts. I will identify with the body. I will experience fear, loss, conflict and frustration. I will think that I am a victim and that something outside me is the source of my problems. I will think that I am separate from others and I will identify others with their bodies.

Today’s lesson reminds me that all of this is not true. Today’s lesson reminds me to identify with my real Self, which is Love. When I remember that Love is my true Home, fear becomes the stranger. I am open to receiving miracles from the Holy Spirit. I step back from the identity I once believed in. I leave my mind open to receive the healing touch of the Holy Spirit. And because minds are joined, I cannot help but give the miracles I have received.

Love by Its very nature gives all Love to all universally. There are no barriers in Love. There are no separate bodies. There is no gap between minds. There is only one Mind — the Mind of Love. There is only universal joining, universal giving, universal receiving, universal joy, universal happiness. All is one in Love.

What kind of a day will I choose to have today? Which mind will I serve, the false mind or the universal Mind of Love? It is my choice and I will receive the effects of that choice today.

All miracles have already been given to everyone. God withholds nothing, having given all of Himself in our Creation. The only reason we are not aware of the miracles we have been given is because we don’t appreciate and accept them. The made up images of this world have more appeal to us than the miracles given us through the Holy Spirit.

Step-by-step the Course is helping us see the valuelessness of the made up world that seems so real. The vision of innocence, holiness and wholeness is ours to claim in every instant. The moment we claim it, we will give it because in this vision is the recognition of our unity with all. By its very nature, this vision must be shared.

“I give the miracles I have received” implies that I have accepted the miracles I give. My job today is to walk with Holy Spirit as my Guide with an open mind and an open heart. As I am open to His lead, I will share His vision and receive the miracle of recognizing the face of Christ everywhere. With His vision there is no conflict, no threat, no thought of harm or loss, only the recognition of dear and treasured brothers everywhere I look. With His vision, I look past all behavior and see the Christ.

I cannot do this alone. The idea of being alone is a barrier to vision. But I am never alone in truth. No matter how much I identify with isolation and limitation in a separate body, the Holy Spirit is always in my mind, ready to share His vision. His vision shows me my real Home where fear is a stranger, unknown because loss is impossible in my real Home.

Today I dedicate myself to walking with the Holy Spirit as my Guide. All thoughts of lack or limitation I give to Him that I may be shown the truth beyond these false thoughts. My heart is filled with gratitude that I have within me the Guide to lead me Home.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 176 Insights
Review: “God is but Love and therefore so am I.”
“Give me your blessing, holy Son of God. I am as God created me.”
“Give me your blessing, holy Son of God” is not asking my brother to do anything. It is really an affirmation to myself that I want to see the face of Christ in my brother. It is through this vision that I receive his blessing. I have had moments when my heart was filled to overflowing with Love. In these moments Love reached out through me to my brothers in warm embrace. I saw each as my friend. All barriers faded. And the more I allowed the Love to extend, the more my heart overflowed.

I believe this is a taste of what it means to accept my holy brother’s blessing. In these times of overflowing Love, I feel perfectly safe and at peace. There is no holding back, because there is no sense of vulnerability and hence no need to protect. The Course is encouraging me to let this be a daily and hourly and moment by moment experience. It reflects Heaven, where there are no limits and no boundaries.

Holy Spirit, help me open my heart today to the Love that has been given me, that I may share It with all the world. Let me see the Light in my brother and reflect his Light back to him, that we may both see the Light we share.

We wake up from this dream of separation as we are willing to look past bodies to the Light of God we all share. It is through opening to the truth of the Light in our brother that we remember that we are still as God created us. We remember that nothing has changed. We are still Love and our brother is still Love. The dream of separation is not true. The Light of God is all there is to see.

This is my practice today. I see the Light of God by making the decision to be open to the truth. The Light of God is always there. It has always been there and will always be there. When I recognize it is there depends on my willingness to recognize the truth.

If I want to see bodies, if I want to see separation, that is what I will see. So today I will work on my willingness to see the truth about my brother, and in the process, I find the truth about myself.

I choose to make today a happy one by opening to God’s truth. It is everywhere and all around me. How willing am I to see it today?

ACIM Workbook Lesson 166 Insights
“I am entrusted with the gifts of God.”
Today’s lesson is asking us to exemplify what we are learning from the Course. To truly have the gifts the Course is offering us we must live them. It is not enough to just repeat the words that God has given me His joy and His Love. I need to accept His joy and be joyous. This is how I offer salvation to the world. This is how I offer joy to my brother — by demonstrating joy. I can only demonstrate joy when I align my will with God’s, when I remember His Will and mine are one and the same.

If I perceive myself attacked by a brother and respond with attack, I have made the world real and denied my Creator’s Will. His Will is to love and nothing else. The more I to take my thoughts of attack to the Holy Spirit to let them be transformed, the more I will live in peace and joy, and the more I will give the gifts of peace and joy. The transformation of my thoughts and beliefs comes in many ways, but the end result is that what I perceived as attack I have been led to see as a call for Love.

Sometimes I recognize the call for Love in another. Sometimes I recognize the call for Love in myself. And oftentimes I see it in both. The Holy Spirit always answers those calls for Love with Love. He reminds me that God created me in Love, has not changed His Mind about me, and so I already have the Love I seek. He reminds me that I am worthy because God has deemed me worthy. Sometimes the transformation of perception leads to an action or expression to a brother to help Him know that he is loved in a form that he can receive. Sometimes it is only a thought of Love in my mind that I can offer, but always, as I give the gift, I receive the gift. I feel the strength of Love in my heart grow.

Today let me recognize the Love I have and am. Let me freely give It so I may receive It’s blessing. Thus do I fulfill God’s trust in me that He has demonstrated by His gifts to me.

God’s gifts to me are His Love, His peace and His joy. God’s gift to me is true happiness. God’s gift to me is Heaven. Jesus tells us in earlier lessons that we are Heaven. We have been given Heaven. It is our only Identity. Our job now is to let go of wandering in the wilderness like the prodigal son. Our job is to accept our inheritance from our Father in Heaven and be willing to be led back to Heaven by the Holy Spirit.

We can tell if we are allowing ourselves to be led back to Heaven by the amount of peace, love and joy we let into our awareness. When we let peace, love and joy into our awareness, we feel it. We are one with these gifts. When we are one with these gifts, we spontaneously give these gifts of peace, love and joy. When we receive Love we give Love. Within the action of receiving is the action of giving. It is all one.

It is interesting to recognize that the most important thing we can give any brother is the gift of peace, the gift of Love, the gift of joy. In order to give these gifts, we must first receive them. And inherent in receiving them is giving them. So today my top priority is to give God’s peace, God’s Love and God’s joy to everyone, because God’s gifts are always all inclusive. I do this by being willing to receive God’s gifts.

My practice today is asking myself often, “Am I actively receiving God’s gifts of peace, love and joy right now?” If not, my job is to open my mind to the Holy Spirit and ask with desire. What I ask for in my heart of hearts I will receive. What a wonderful opportunity I have today — the practice of receiving the gifts of God and giving them away.

I have succeeded in making it a habit to ask Holy Spirit to take my thoughts of attack and transform them. Though I don’t always do it, I do it more often than not. It is making a huge difference in my life. I realized this morning that I almost never follow my request by asking for God’s Love and comfort. I am not asking for joy. I think this tells me that I am resisting my true Self and clinging instead to the self I made. I think the only way to change this is by a conscious decision to do so. I will spend today reminding myself that I want God’s gifts of peace love and joy and asking for them. I am sure that receiving them will increase my motivation.

It is essential I do this because I must have them so that I can give them away. This is my part in the salvation of the world. I think that unconsciously I was beginning to realize what I’ve been doing because lately it has been bothering me a lot that I am so seldom accepting these gifts from God. I’ve been talking to Holy Spirit about it, but somehow I’ve been thinking of them as rewards, nice but hardly necessary, and perhaps not deserved yet. I see it differently now and I thank God for this new vision.
