DEC.2017 HEARD AT MEETINGS

My sponsor said in the first year you can have all the sex
you want and in the second year you can have it with a partner.

=========================
The only thing I heard when I came into the rooms was
when they read the Traditions,there are no fees and Jews.
Anonymous
==========================
I didn’t want to commit, I thought I could
never follow through with anything.
Anonymous

==========================
My wife was here a while ago, she just dropped
me off at the meeting and left.
I was starting to get a little antsy.
Anonymous
==========================
My wife for the last 28 years has
never said don’t go to an AA meeting.
Anonymous
==========================
Sometimes the hair was raised in the back of my neck,
but I would sit there and someone would say something
and I would get relief.
Anonymous

==========================
 It’s our shared experience to be open and willing.
Sometimes this long. Tells us that we have needs too.
Anonymous

==========================
I would drink and go to meetings, not drinking not go to meetings.
I couldn’t get the right combination down.
Anonymous

==========================
Pete used to say, you only have to not drink one day at a time,
so I picked the shortest day of the year for for my sobriety date.
Anonymous
==========================
Got resentment for someone?
Go pray for them every day for 10 days.
Anonymous

==========================
Normal people don’t have to go through what we have to go through.
We have people we can call all through the day.
Anonymous
==========================
When I came in 13 years ago I wasn’t this voluptuous, fluffy.
Anonymous
==========================
I was just a nasty argumentative little drunk
and when I came in to AA I was a snotty dry drunk.
Anonymous
==========================
I became willing to do things that were inconvenient.
Anonymous
==========================
I love to do sober vacations, if you get a chance, do it.
Anonymous
==========================
I remember seeing a friend of mine, Randy,
and I saw him up on the hill flying kites with his little boys.
I ask him how he had changed so much
I’ve been going to that a and a thing. Anonymous
I decided to check it out and I’ve been here ever since.
Anonymous
============================
My job mainstreamed to me into Alcoholics
Anonymous.
============================
I was sober for 3 years and my wife was still
drinking and doing drugs and we got divorced.
Anonymous
============================
I married another woman and thought I could never drink again,
I got drunk on our honeymoon cruise. I got back to the meetings.
That been on the my honeymoon.
Anonymous
============================
I got a sponsor by the name of Jack and he said
that he didn’t know of any individual who had gotten
on his knees in the morning and ask God to keep
him from taking another drink, and I thank him at night.
Anonymous
============================
I made a decision to turn my will, my wife,
and my life over to the care of God.
Anonymous

============================
I have discovered that I can’t impose my will on other people.
Anonymous

============================
I’m grateful that God gave me a life that I don’t deserve.
Anonymous
=========================
I expected the promises to come true right away.
I’ve since learned sometimes quickly sometimes slowly.
Anonymous
=========================
My father was a construction worker,
a drug addict, and a gang member.
Anonymous
=========================
My dad would come and take me
out of class and take me to the beach.
My mother would go crazy, throwing
flower pots Through the Windows.
Anonymous
=========================
To me my father always meant fun and happiness.
Anonymous
=========================
I’ve always felt different, I was sent to a
white school and made to go to English
classes and I hated it, so I always felt different.
Anonymous
=========================
I stole from my mom’s new husband and
always gave the money away at school.
Anonymous
=========================
My step father caught me stealing his money
and told me that he wasn’t going to tell my
mother because it would break her heart.
My mom and dad have been married
28 years now and I see him as my father.
Anonymous
=========================
I would steal vodka and go to school drunk.
Anonymous
=========================
I walked through a classroom that was
full of people and fell asleep in the dark room.
Anonymous
=========================
It was Alcoholics Anonymous that showed
me that I have a big bag of tools in my life.
Anonymous
=========================
A lot of these folks may think I haven’t
made any progress,
 I want you to know that I feel progress.
Anonymous
=========================
Out there is a secular world but I can come
here and feel spiritual.
Anonymous
=========================
I was drinking myself to sleep while
working for a non-profit.
The board had to let me go.
Anonymous
=========================
I decided to get a real estate license
then I could drink all day.
Anonymous
=========================
This program made me employable again.
Anonymous
  =========================
I thought it was okay to drive around
with a six pack in the car. I ended up
standing in front of the same judge
I had worked for before.
Anonymous
=========================
I used to be behind the judges now
I was in front of them.
Anonymous
=========================
All the promises of come true for me
and before I thought ‘no way’ and now
things are completely different.
Anonymous
=========================
I never checked my mailbox,
no money so why check for bills
that I couldn’t pay.
Anonymous
=========================
About a year-and-a-half into the program
when I had a problem people saying
“what happens if you don’t do your 4th step”.
 Anonymous
=========================
 I made a list and started paying people back. “
Fear of economic insecurity did leave.
Anonymous
=========================
Today I come to the 12 coconuts,
it’s a speaker discussion meeting
and I’m the speaker, go figure.
Anonymous
=========================
I wouldn’t be here without the program
and I wouldn’t be here without you folks in my life.
Anonymous
=========================
At my very first meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous
I heard for the first time in my life about total abstinence.
Anonymous
=========================
I knew I was an alcoholic and I was
kind of proud of it.
Anonymous
=========================
Normal people would say
‘no thank you I have to go home’ or
 ‘I have to go to work tomorrow.’
Anonymous
=========================
If I wasn’t drinking I was crawling in my skin.
Anonymous
=========================
I was so crazy I said I could handle it.
Anonymous
=========================
Admit meant that I had to let into air
into my innermost self or I was doomed.
Anonymous
=========================
It works if you believe in God,
but you can’t play God.
Anonymous
=========================
I had a real painful thing about
God not being there, but there was God.
Anonymous
=========================
I went from no self-esteem, to having low self-esteem.
Anonymous
=========================
Today I know that if I take that first
drink the insanity will start all over again.
Anonymous
=========================
He said to work the steps m*********** or die.
I used to say Give me liberty or give me Meth.
Anonymous
=========================
Today I’m finding Serenity rather than begging for it.
Anonymous
=========================
I remember my friend who put a rope around
his neck and ran, all he got was rope Burns
and a sore back.
Anonymous
=========================
Today I consider my seventh and not tell my boss off.
Anonymous
=========================
I wanted to be the boss but I was at the bottom of the totem pole.
Anonymous
=========================
I have come to believe that I don’t have
to work this program I get to live it.
Anonymous
=========================
Not working the steps I still had that hole in my soul.
Anonymous
=========================
I suggest that you get a god, get a book
and a sponsor who will read with you.
Anonymous
=========================
I had sex in a confession Booth one time
and figured God wanted nothing to do with me.
Anonymous
=========================
Today I think I’ll let God write my life for me.
Anonymous
=========================
There’s the drinking me and there’s the not drinking me.
Anonymous

======================
I just wanted to keep that feeling
that five beers gave,
but I always overshot the mark.
Anonymous

======================
I’m Just One Drink away from a life sentence.
It’s like playing Russian roulette.
Anonymous
======================
When I drink I’m face down in the street
or I can come here and reach out.
Anonymous

======================
You take the actions and not only will
your feelings change, your outlook will change.
Anonymous
======================
I was always living in the past,
fearful of the future.
Anonymous

======================
The only battle for me today is a spiritual battle.
And when I Let Go, and surrender, there’s no battle.
Anonymous
======================
When I got here I was afraid of the mailbox
and the answer phone.
Anonymous
======================
I carry my chip with me to remind me that I have to be humble.
Anonymous
======================
Yesterday I was able to dive 105 ft and see
manta rays sharks at cetera and I could
see none of that from my couch.
Anonymous
======================
Today my boss says he needs me and he doesn’t
have to keep me away from the vodka either.
Anonymous
======================
When I came into the rooms I was pissed
off about the last 3 months,
and fearful of what I had to do the next 3 months.
Anonymous

If You want to feel good, clean up after yourself,
make your bed, and you will look different.
Ron,you need to play catch-up.
Anonymous

======================

I would wake up in the morning and the
first word that came to my mind was s***!
Anonymous
======================
I am one thought away from having a wonderful day.
Anonymous

======================
I did all my traveling on a bar stool.
Anonymous
======================
I was The Walking Dead when I came
to Alcoholics Anonymous, no one knew
it except the garbage man because
of the bottles he took away every week.
Anonymous

======================
One day the garbage man looked at me and said ‘you quit drinking?
And I said ‘yeah!’ And he said ‘wow!’
Anonymous
======================
I woke up this morning, I didn’t come to.
Anonymous
======================

I looked at my dad and said
“I’m afraid you’re going to hit her like you did mom.
He looked at me with blank eyes. He had been in a blackout.
Anonymous
=========================
 My dad was from Scotland and it was
normal to give children, toddlers,
hot toddies when we were ill.
Anonymous
=========================
There were $2 keggers in my hometown
and I remember throwing up.
I thought to myself, “I need to learn how to drink”.
I didn’t realize I was an Alcoholic.
Anonymous
=========================
I was such a victim, I never hurt anyone.
It wasn’t until I got sober that I realized
how I had heard my family calling late
at night and blackouts.
Anonymous
=========================
I would go from job to job and when
I would get flush I would go to a bar
and buy drinks for everyone until my money was gone.
Anonymous
=========================
I found it there what I was looking for I was looking with.
Anonymous
=========================
My sponsor said when you’re talking to traffic call me.
Anonymous
=========================
Any power I need comes from my higher power.
Anonymous
=========================
Step 11 is designed to change my attitude.
Anonymous
=========================
The basic principle behind the 11th step
prayer is to leave myself alone.
Anonymous
=========================
Faith without works is dead and it
says that 3 times in the big book.
Anonymous
=========================
I said maybe I need meds and he said
“no, you need the other Med, meditation”.
Anonymous
=========================
My sponsor said the talking is over now
it’s time to start walking and steps.
Anonymous
=========================
Today I can go back to the town that I was a speed bump in.
Anonymous
=========================
I would sit and talk to God and you know,
you can’t lie to your higher power that would be dumb.
Anonymous
=========================
But what I am it’s seeking me.
It says deep down inside every
man woman there’s this higher power.
Anonymous
=========================
 For years my daily reprieve was in a bottle.
Anonymous
=========================
I said to my mom “why don’t you go to AA”?
 and she said because they make you work
through your problems instead of stuffing them down.
Anonymous
=========================
I went to bars every day so this is
my natural habitat, to be around people.
Anonymous
=========================
It’s strange that after all these years
I’m still clueless as to surrender.
Anonymous
=========================
As everyone knows, our disease is
a disease that says that we don’t have it.
Anonymous
=========================
There is a bottom, if you’re lucky enough to hit it,
 it says enough is enough.
Anonymous
=========================
When I drink I was always looking for the next one.
Anonymous
=========================
It took a lot to get me to know that I was an alcoholic,
there were plenty of signposts along the way.
Anonymous
=========================
Intellectually I thought I was smarter than the disease.
Anonymous
=========================
I’ve heard that when you try to control your drinking,
you’re drinking is controlling you.
Anonymous
=========================
I got divorced and my marriage counselor
suggested that I go to Alcoholics
Anonymous.
=========================
There was a lot of laughter,
but I really didn’t want to stop.
Anonymous
=========================
I’ve discovered that non-alcoholic beer is for non-alcoholics.
Anonymous
=========================
I became a ‘what the hell Drinker’.
Anonymous
=========================
When the police arrested me,
I got off of the elevator.
I was fed up with myself and I
 lost you desire to drink.
I went to a group and became
 a coffee maker and all the
different services in between.
Anonymous
=========================
The biggest thing I’ve seen is those that
take that elevator down and never get off.
Anonymous
=========================
I guess I’ll never be a cucumber again,
I’ll always be a pickle.
Anonymous
=========================
We can take that elevator to hell or we can jump off.
Anonymous
=========================
I didn’t lose a job, because I was a student
when I came into the program.
I only looked for the differences.
Anonymous
=========================
In steps 11 it was the We that showed me the I.
Anonymous
=========================
It was you guys that showed me how to find myself.
Anonymous
=========================
The longer I’m sober the more I need the fellowship.
Anonymous
=========================
I thought I was the center of the universe
and I dominated my family.
Anonymous
=========================
I thought I was high and mighty and
looking back it’s very embarrassing.
Anonymous
=========================
Being from the Midwest, I could only dog paddle
and the ocean became my first Higher Power.
 Anonymous
=========================
I like what it says, restores us to sanity,
meaning you and I are no longer nuts.
Anonymous
=========================
 I’m the textbook demonstration of someone who’s extreme.
Anonymous
=========================
It’s thet thinking that precedes the first drink,
it’s an insane thought.
 Anonymous
=========================
My mom no longer has to look for me in bars.
Anonymous
=========================
My truth is that I live in self will a lot.
Anonymous
=========================
I have no plans to drink today, but that’s not a given…
I work with a lot of people out there and I have to
keep my toolbox handy.
Anonymous
=========================
I love the Good Book but the Big Book
is the only one that is going to be good
for me without that Big Book it’s no good.
Anonymous
=========================
The third step for me is getting out of my own self will.
Anonymous
=========================
I was working at Denny’s and every night after the bars closed
I would have to work with a whole lot of people just like me.
I would have to go into the bathroom and do the Serenity Prayer.
Anonymous
=========================
That Serenity Prayer works one day at a time.
Anonymous
=========================
When I went to my very first meeting
I somehow knew that I was going to be helped.
Anonymous
=========================
And that first action step for me was step 3.
Anonymous
=========================
I came into Alcoholics Anonymous broken,
I was just shamed and I had a new husband
who didn’t know that I had a problem.
Anonymous
=========================
That third step is about willingness,
it’s the willingness to turn your life over,
over there something greater than yourself.
Anonymous
=========================
The third step is the willingness and
the 11th step is the maintenance.
Anonymous
=========================
It’s the holiday season and all the doors
are open saying ‘come in, come in you can have one’.
Anonymous
=========================
Then there’s the family gatherings where
people are insisting that you can have just one.
Anonymous

=========================
Then there’s the Gatherings that
people insist that you have a drink.
Anonymous
=========================
I have the Serenity Prayer, I use it as a Battle Cry.
Anonymous

=========================
Another thing that I have in my
toolbox is sponsors, literature, and meetings.
Anonymous
=========================

Three men walked up to me shaking my hand
and said it’s going to be okay.
Then they took me to another meeting.
Anonymous
===========================
I remember going to a meeting in Orlando,
there were just two little old ladies there,
blue haired and said it’s going to be okay.
To this day is one of the best meetings I’ve ever been in.
There was just the three of us
anonymous
===========================
If you had told me that I was going to
be here telling you what my life is like today,
I would have said ‘you crazy’.
anonymous.
===========================
Why waste time with a lemon and the
salt around the rim, hell, I’m a guzzler.
Anonymous
===========================
I knew these two guys and they were doing LSD
and on top of a telephone pole climbing to go higher,
I said to myself, I don’t want to be like that.
Anonymous
===========================
People with a 45° slide in thinking,
those I can understand.
Anonymous
===========================
He had two kilos of cocaine under his bed
he had a gun and he called me and said,
you’re the only psychotic I can trust.
Anonymous
===========================
I’m definitely not here because I drank milk.
Anonymous
===========================
I can see the change in you,
but not necessarily in me.
Anonymous
===========================
My experience strength and hope is the same
as everyone in here, even the newest newcomer.
Anonymous
===========================
Thank God I don’t drink today because I
would have a non-religious load of that crap.
Anonymous
===========================
They told me that a drink would always make things worse.
Anonymous
===========================
I’ve got to share because I like to listen to me.
Anonymous
===========================
I’m going to go home and open the gifts with the three kids,
then they are going to fight, because they went with the other ones have.
Anonymous
===========================
My worst thinking got me here but
my best listening keeps me here.
Anonymous
===========================
I got my gift this morning which was that
I wasn’t thinking about a drink and didn’t want one.
Anonymous
===========================
I knew I was going to get older I just didn’t
think it would happen this fast.
Anonymous
===========================
It was day 4th day in my treatment center and I said,
“holy s***, I’m an alcoholic!”
Anonymous
===========================
I was introduced to martinis and I started staying out.
I remember my kids asking their mother why their dad
was sleeping in the car.
Anonymous
===========================
My alcohol escalated pretty much in the last 4 years.
I was walking the dogs at 4 a.m. so I can have a drink.
Anonymous
===========================
For no particular reason I woke up one morning
and knew I was doomed unless things changed.
Anonymous
===========================
I went to my doctor and cried like a baby.
My doctor said that she was an alcoholic
and I was shocked, she sent me to Alcoholics Anonymous.
Anonymous
===========================
My first meeting was like a brain damaged meeting.
Anonymous
===========================
I always wore a mask, no one could get beneath it.
Anonymous
===========================
Once I had a drink I could talk the hind legs off of a donkey.
Anonymous
===========================
I had the curse of not having any
consequences for my drinking.
I never drank at work.
Anonymous
===========================
Alcohol helped me bullshit myself. myself.
Anonymous
===========================
I couldn’t be an alcoholic, I had a wife, four kids,
a house in the suburbs, I couldn’t be an Alcoholic.
Anonymous
===========================
Thanks, you’re the bombcom.
Anonymous
===========================
I thought I could get a good woman and
it would slow things down, when I got her,
it’s sped things up.
Anonymous
===========================
From a young age I always thought that
I was a burden to others.
Anonymous
===========================
The more I got beat up the more I wanted to listen.
I thought I was just a hard nut to crack.
Anonymous
===========================
I can’t relate to the Earth people so I come here.
Anonymous
===========================
I need simple, I can ruin a wet dream.
 Anonymous
===========================

When I stopped at chasing the answer I found the answer.
I started listen to people who Could Walk The Talk.
Anonymous
======================
I slept on that Beach right over there,
not deliberately, I had a hotel room.
Anonymous
======================
I cannot remember there ever not being
a party in my home when I grow up.
As soon as the cans popped the fights broke out.
Anonymous
======================
I smoked pot when I was 9 years old
and was sent home from school.
My mom said where in the hell did you learn that?
And I said “from you, you smoke it everyday “.
Anonymous
She probably thought it wasn’t a good idea that
 she should let me smoke at 9 but I was already
blazing my own trail.
Anonymous
======================
I didn’t get into beer until I get into my teens
but I was drinking a lot of whiskey long before that.
Anonymous
======================
The guide thing was a big barrier for me when I got here.
They showed me ‘as we understood Him’ and that relieved me a lot.
Anonymous
======================
They told me that understanding was a structure
and they told me to fake it until I could until I could make it.
Anonymous
======================
I would call my sponsor because I had a these gut-wrenching feelings.
Anonymous
======================
I had never had any degree of humility
and forget the God stuff.
Anonymous
======================
I often think that I am honest only to find out that I’m not.
At least people no longer think I’m a loser
and I don’t think I’m a loser either.
Anonymous
======================
There was a group of people who knew more
about drinking than I did.
Anonymous
======================
I got two or three jobs and quit going to
meetings and then I got fearful and said “
God, please help” and then life got much better.
Anonymous
======================
I thought I was way too young to get here,
but I start listening to you folks and
 32 years later I’m still here.
Anonymous
======================
It’s not so much who your God is
but are you letting go of control.
Anonymous
======================
Alcohol used to touch every area of my life,
today, Alcoholics Anonymous touches very
every area of my life, all the time.
Anonymous
======================
It took everything to get here,
DUIs, excetera to get here.
Anonymous
======================
I was asked to speak at a meeting and
 my sister was with me and had never
heard my story. She was shocked.
Anonymous
======================
Today I have choices, those places
I had to go to and today there are places
that I choose to go.
Anonymous
======================
There were so many people whose lives
I had an impacted and I didn’t even know it.
Anonymous
======================
There’s the sirens going,
today I’m not afraid of them anymore.
Every cop that stopped me saved my life.
Today I can see things differently.
Anonymous
======================
My journey hasn’t always been doable but
it has always helped me mature little more.
Anonymous
======================
Today I have a chance to have a handshake with God.
Anonymous
======================
I can leave the meeting with the resentment
and come back 6 months later and
you didn’t even miss me.
Anonymous
======================
If I’m going to compare myself with
someone let it be a newcomer.
Anonymous
======================
I can’t label any of this as mine.
Anonymous
======================
I had to fight for my life line tonight and
I don’t want crap in my life anymore.
Anonymous
======================
I love my job but I hate going to work.
Anonymous
======================
I haven’t been any place that I couldn’t find a meeting.
Anonymous
======================
I was in and out for a long time but I
would rather have a lot of chips than none.
Anonymous
======================
I sprained my ankle and they told me I couldn’t dance for two weeks.
So I decided to kill myself and took a bottle of Sominex.
My roommate said you can’t kill yourself with Simon X
you have to Slit your wrist. She was crazier than me so I moved out.
Anonymous
======================
I would take the subway to the last stop,
go into the small store, walk around with
my cart wondering how much I could carry
home because I had to walk a half a mile
and then you go 6 flights up.
Anonymous
======================
I had thrown God out of my life
when I was in the fifth grade.
Anonymous
======================
I went to my first meeting and said
 these people are really sick!
Anonymous
======================
People would tell me whatever you’re thinking is wrong.
Anonymous
======================
I can only give the newcomer my heart
and not too much of my brain.
Anonymous
======================
I didn’t want to claim my sobriety today
because I didn’t think I deserved it.
Anonymous
======================
I was going to do a lot of things but smoking
 a joint in the morning slowed things the way down.
