I was so drunk that I went to bed with
a ten and came to with a two.

If I wasn’t mentally busy I was in a rage all the time,
which still makes no sense, since I’m a nurse.

I remember saying to myself that if I went 
into that room it would mean that I had a problem.

I was introduced to a group of women by my sponsor, 
they would  laugh so hard that they couldn’t get their breath.

They tell me the three second rule which if
it is going to hurt you, I got it for 3 seconds, 
Look Away, Don’t Look Back.

She said quit arguing with yourself whether 
or not you want to get sober. Obviously she said,
it didn’t work, so don’t keep looking back.

She said you don’t get pregnant because
God hates you, you get pregnant because you had sex.

I am so grateful to my sponsor who helps 
me to translate the world around me.

If I think I’m too smart to have this alcoholic addiction, 
that’s the Trap.

Even if they don’t have a solution for me, they are in it.

I have a Master’s from Georgetown but I
couldn’t figure this thing out.

So when I started drinking, the tornadoes broke out.

When I drank I hung out with the same people every day,
now that I’m sober, I hang out with the same people every day.

I’m not used to speaking but if I get lost
I know you all will come and get me.

There is just myself, my mother and my grandmother,
we didn’t have money but I had a family who loved to me.

I brought my school friends home to my
house and they became my family.

You guys tell me that if I don’t look at myself really
really good then I’ll never see the good in me.

You guys have shown me how I can fix myself
with my mother, not just her, with others also.

With you guys I learn how to fix myself,
which is internal.

For 30 years I was an alcoholic and I didn’t
know how to put a label on it.
You guys have shown me how. Today, I’m an alcoholic.

I thought I was having fun, getting up, not knowing
where my purse was, or my car or for that matter
where I was, and who I was with.

I don’t like white-knuckling it so I go to a meeting,
and I’m surprised how well it works for me.

but I didn’t know that it was related to my drinking.

By the time I got to meetings at seventeen, 
I had been in several mental institutions.

I was good at going into the actors mode,

I said I would just have a couple so I drank the whole six-pack.

 Don’t drink now,I’ll have just one 
while I’m not drinking. 
I did the only thing I knew, 
I drank that one and many many more.

 I was invited to a birthday party for my mom, 
this was in May, her birthday is in September. 
It was an intervention.

 My lenses to were scratched and I 
was looking at the world in a 
completely different way.

 He said you can be hungry but if 
you don’t get off at the futon and
 go to the fridge then you’re going to stay that way.

 I learned that you can’t walk like 
an elephant and defecate like a bird.

It said that AA tells you how to find what 
you want in life and shows you how to 
stay sober while doing it.

When I was told the rules for the meeting 
I still thought, how can I break them?
 I was born in the middle of a pack of nine
 kids and I thought that’s why I became an alcoholic.

I could have a couple drinks and
really get out there and dance.

I prefer drinking out of bottles because the 
hole is always in the same place.

On my second day in college I smoked some 
hash and for the next 17 years all I did was
drink and you smoke dope.

I had a relationship with all kinds of things, 
mine in particular was garbage cans and 
as I would walk into them I would laugh.

My journey was very bad and abusive.

My past was so bad that I knew I was going to die.

My first attempt of sobriety started at 
woman’s way and I just couldn’t get it.

I gave up my children in my alcoholism
 and all I wanted was love. 
Today they are in my life and I’m very grateful.

Sometimes I have to holler, f**** me God, 
I need your help!

At Sand Island Treatment Center they said 
to me “just say that you’ve got it”.

I had attribute my program to the
dumbing-down process. I knew it all.

I come here and I am provided with humility and
 if I tell you I’m humble that means that I’m not.

Because I drank a lot and drank all the time, 
I never saw I had a necessity for alcohol.

It never occurred to me that having a 
12-hour bridal shower was not normal.

As I went along, I felt sorry for my husband, 
who had a sort of a brutal childhood. 
I still wonder if that’s why he was able to put up with me.

My husband was in detox and it never 
occurred to me not to go driving, 
not expecting to get a DUI.

At the beginning every night at 5 p.m.
my door was closed and I was sleeping
on the floor trying not to be an Alcoholic.

All of a sudden I’m a foreigner in my own life, 
I can’t tell you how I feel but I’m a foreigner.

I said to this woman ‘what do I say when someone 
comes over and asked me if I want to drink’
 and she said oh you say no thank you.

It doesn’t mean that I have to jump
in with my opinion, things just are.

I’ve discovered that since I’m sober
I have a conscience.

I was able to take drugs, but once
 I drank I became the poster child for alcoholics.

I’m not the actor or liar I used to be but 
once I take a drink I’m gone.

I was dry and it was a living hell.

He kept saying you’ve got it, you’ve got it,
and I said when I want to I will.

My wife sent me to Alcoholics Anonymous,
 I was full of fear, and I had no idea where
 that was coming from.

About 12 minutes after this woman in the
restaurant had gotten her drink and not had a drink 
I couldn’t remember anything except in when
I looked at her last she was sipping and that drove me nuts!

My disease followed me around no 
matter where I went, there was.

I drank Manhattans, got sick, and knew it was the cherries.

And my disease followed me no
 matter where I went, there it was.

I knew that there was a lot of wrong with me 
but I didn’t know that it was related to my drinking.

By the time I got to meetings, this at 17, 
I’d already been in several mental institutions.

I didn’t really want to get sober, 
my life was so unnatural.

I was 23 when I got sober, and at the time 
I was renting a corner in a room, 
and had found a mattress on the street
 and thought it was cool, New York City you know.

Any minor inconvenience was enough to send me out.

I didn’t understand why no one liked 
me and I didn’t like anyone.

I have now been sober for 11 years 
and my life is so much different now.

They put erasers on pencils because we keep making mistakes.

I would rather hear everyone else’s 
story instead of mine; because I 
grew up in the fellowship.

I’m a product of Alcoholics Anonymous, my parents met 
in the rooms but I had to write my own story. 
I was homeless on streets and in jail.

Somewhere along the line I realized that I had 
choices and didn’t want to be picked up and 
tossed and jail every time I drank.

I was having a rough time yesterday and got to a meeting, 
I felt much better after that.

We’re supposed to share what’s happening in 
our life in a general way but getting the bad stuff 
out takes the power away from it.

The word try is to set yourself up for 
failure so I try not to try, I do.

I’m tired, it’s been a long day,
I’ve been around alcoholics all day.

I went to a inter- group party;I went to a GSR
meeting;and here I am still around more Alcoholics.

I take on way too much and if I say no, 
just nod your head okay.

I want to thank the secretary for asking me to speak today. 
It’s always a privilege and an honor to be asked to share my story.

I’m a selfish and self-centered individual but 
I decided to go back and apologize.

Sometimes the thing I hate most about myself is 
when I remove  myself from the presence of my Higher Power.

In school my buddies had the ability to 
get drunk and go home. I lacked that ability.

I woke up in a leg cast, and my mom asked me what I drink.
I said whiskey, and Mom said you can’t drink whiskey, 
I’m allergic, your grandfather was allergic, and your father was allergic. 
You have to find something else to drink. 
I was 14 at the time.

I called a buddy and he said to me; you’re a miner, and I said what?; 
he said you’ll dig and dig and if you don’t hit a rock you’ll keep on digging.

I thought I couldn’t drink for the rest of my
life and my sponsor said, you’re a 24-hour man,
just do it one day at a time.

 My sponsor asked if I was going to the Monday 
night meeting and I said no I didn’t like that meeting 
and he said, I thought you were going to meetings to help someone.

When your brain is all messed up you think of insurance
for your wife and children.

When I don’t go to meetings I feel isolated in
my head and my life sucks. 
Anonymous

In 2012 I got a DUI, I was under the influence of the guy. 
Anonymous

I knew I was in my bottom and I knew I had a lot to learn.
For 10 years I was in a miserable marriage, and I had no idea.

I love that today I’m able to come in here 
and share the mutual affection we have for each other.

I’ve gotten fired from his few job since I got sober, 
because I can be miserably honest.

My brother is in and out of the program, 
I just have to keep my side of the street clean. 
Anonymous

I go to meetings all over the Northwest when 
I’m working and I love meetings. So I get to go 
to a meeting wherever I am.

I went to a meeting where I met a guy on 
the mainland and at a meeting in Kona
I said I recognize that guy. Odd or God?

 I was taught early not to say no so here I am.

At least half of my family is alcoholic so I 
always feel more comfortable when I’m at home.

I only had one best friend and when she wasn’t there I felt very lonely.

In school I discovered alcohol and I was able to fit in, 
I wouldn’t go to a party without alcohol.

I chose guys who liked to drink, I was married a 
couple of times and I started to find fault with
 them because they didn’t drink.

My husband’s had their alcohol but shame on 
them if they touched mine.

I would also invite the parents over to my parties 
and that made it okay to drink. 
Anonymous
I was a blackout Drinker from the first drink, 
and for some reason I was pretty proud of that.

I’ve got three teenagers at home and they know everything,
I’m a dick.
Anonymous
===========================
I just love creating chaos when I’m drunk.
Anonymous
===========================
When my wife was in the room I was
not supposed to drink, so I rarely saw her.
Anonymous
===========================
Today I can say it’s the past because
my life is moving forward.
Anonymous

I gave up my children when I was drinking
and never saw them. I was full of Rage.
Anonymous

I stayed clean for a year but still went back to prison,
I was comfortable, I thought I was a tough b****.

I lived on the beach for 3 years and ended up in prison again.
Anonymous
===========================
In prison I had a bed, food and got caught drinking in jail.
Anonymous

Got out, got busted, and back to jail again.
When I do time I do a long time.
Anonymous

I see God in each and everyone of
you that’s how I could get my message.
Anonymous

Each and every woman in the house I live in,
I see their defects and mine through God.

Swallowing your pride will not get you drunk.

The better it gets the faster the years go by.

I’m the greeter at the breakfast meeting, I love to greet visitors.

All you have to do is try and keep
sober and find out what works for you.

I was in a illegal pharmacist out there for
many years and today I get to go to meetings.

I know that if I drink I lose everything my
friends, job, home and security.

It’s great to be at a meeting with my family of choice.

Alcohol is but a symptom, get rid
of the alcohol in the problem is me.

When I came to the program there had been a time
where I hadn’t seen my father, who lives across town,
for 13 years. Today my family my family and I are way more close.

it all works.

Do I create the crap in my mind, of course I do.

I drink alcohol in the horns come out, I become stupid.
