HEARD AT MEETINGS FEB.2017

HEARD AT MEETINGS FEB.2017

I got sober at 32 and toward the end it it became a constant spiral downward.
Anonymous
=========================
It seems that self-will was a liability to me.
Anonymous
=========================
I got tired of feeling how I was feeling.
Anonymous
==========================
The fear I came here with his been removed
and today I’m able to listen to people talk about God.
Anonymous
============================
Who goes out there and puts toxic poison in their systems and continues doing it. That’s Insanity!
Anonymous
============================
 Freedom to me is the number one promise.
Anonymous
============================
Painstaking to me means moving out of my comfort zone.
Anonymous
============================
Today I feel like I’m living up to my full
potential and there’s always room for growth.
Anonymous
============================
I came to after a really bad drunk and saw a church and having not prayed for 30 years
I felt an overwhelming urge to make that contact with my higher power and today I’m sober 17 years.
Anonymous
============================
Today I try to do things so that I feel the innocence in my life.
I don’t want to lose the desire to stop drinking.
Anonymous
============================
I had a sponsor who always reminded me to remember
where I was standing, then I can go from there.
Anonymous
============================
My experience is that the bigger the storm the bigger the rainbow. Anonymous
============================
There was a guy who spent 10 years on death row and today
he walks a free man with 10 years of sobriety.
Anonymous
============================
 Thie meetings is about starting and completing.
Anonymous
============================
My sponsor wanted me to be God dependent,
not sponsor dependent. Anonymous
=======================
My sponsee went out I can’t go bring him back, pain is our only teacher.
Anonymous
============================
I knew early on I was an alcoholic, and thought I could handle it.
I couldn’t!
Anonymous
============================
You folks gave me back gratitude.
Anonymous
============================
Today I celebrate 16 years; I turned 51 yesterday.
Anonymous
============================
This lady at my home group always says I’m grateful and I’m blessed.
Anonymous
============================
My foot is hurting and in my alcoholic thinking I’m already in a wheelchair.
Anonymous
============================
i can go to work and speak their language and I can come here
and you speak my language.
Anonymous
============================
 Today I’m able to live in truth instead of all of world full of lies.
Anonymous
============================
Today I don’t have to talk about the future and I don’t have to talk about the past.
Anonymous
============================
I earned my seat here and hopefully my brain is
going to kick in any moment now.
Anonymous
============================
My dad flies in today and I was able to help him get sober.
Anonymous
============================
My grandfather had multiple strokes and when
I was eight years old he died from alcoholism.
Anonymous
============================
My dad offered me money to be his sponsor
which was super funny. There are now two
members in my family sober and dad is trying
to hold the family together.
Anonymous
============================
I can’t father my father but I can stay sober
and help that next guy who walks through the front door.
Anonymous
============================
I have taken a lot of people through the steps
and have never seen any of them get sober.
My sponsor said that they helped me more
than I could possibly know.
Anonymous
============================
I’m a musician and I’m not really aware of the
alcohol in some of the bars that I play in.
At least not until I see them starting to act out.
Anonymous
============================
I’m able to do what I do because I’m sober. Anonymous
============================
After my very first drink ever, I thought
every guy there loved to me.
Anonymous
============================
All my lower companions were worse than I was
so I couldn’t be an alcoholic.
Anonymous
============================
I hated the idea of someone saying
‘wow! do you know what you did last night?’
Anonymous
============================
My first meeting was in San Francisco and
sure enough there were all these men m trench coats.
Then they all prayed at the end of the meeting and I was out of there.
Anonymous
============================
My cocktail was a half a gallon of vodka. Mom,
would make excuses for me and when she died
the family wanted nothing to do with me after that.
Anonymous
============================
I wanted nothing to do with living; I wanted to drink and
just drop dead, and then I heard about liver disease.
Anonymous
============================
We’re Gardener’s, we just plant the seed
of sobriety and there are no weeds.
Anonymous
============================
My mom went to meeting and she had to
tell my father she was going to Weight Watchers,
because my father thought that we should fix our own problems.
Anonymous
============================
There going to be a whole lot of ads on television
today in at the bottom of it it’s going to say drink
responsibly ;yeah, sure!
Anonymous
============================
I  was a slow-burner; over decades;
and all of a sudden I needed alcohol,; not wanted it;
I needed it.
Anonymous
============================
In every picture of me from Early Childhood I was
always hanging on to a man.
My girlfriend always had a glass or a bottle in her hand.
Anonymous
============================
In my neighborhood we knew nothing about drugs
we just thought it was about heroin.
Anonymous
=========================
I ended up in a hit-and-run and a DUI.
Anonymous
=========================
I woke up and realized I’m powerless over alcohol,
I go to the hospital they tell me I should go to alcoholics anonymous.
Anonymous
=========================
I loved being drunk but I didn’t love it when the booze ran out.
Anonymous
=========================
I was told that the first step would identify the problem.
Anonymous
=========================
Up to fifty-two booze worked for me,
but then I spent the next five years resting on my laurels.
I was in and out for the next 10 years.
Anonymous
=========================
I was told that I had a mental illness and that it was alcoholism.
Anonymous
=========================
Here is my insanity,;insanity is my God.
All I have to do is change the channels.
Anonymous
=========================
We are all we are all here trying to Glimpse
the God of our understanding and others.
Anonymous
=========================
The 2nd step to me was when I had reached
a spiritual bottom.
Anonymous
=========================
If I have a drink again I hope I die, but with my luck,
it would probably be an institution.
Anonymous
=========================
If I die it will be a head death and not a death death.
That’s the worst of all.
Anonymous
=========================
I had a friend who said I was transcendentally challenged.
Anonymous
=========================
My favorite holiday in San Francisco was Fleet Week.
Anonymous
=========================
I came from a family who like to kill animals,
smoke pot and always have a kegger.
They were good people.
Anonymous
=========================
I haven’t taken a drink and I’m going crazy.
Anonymous
=========================
I knew there was some Insanity
I just dismissed it as fun at parties.
Anonymous
=========================
I knew there was some Insanity I just dismissed it as fun at parties.
Anonymous
=========================
The simple thing about Step 2 is that there
is a God and it’s not you.
Anonymous
=========================
The sanity finally returned when I could do Life Is Life On Life’s terms.
Anonymous
=========================
I was watching the Super Bowl Parade but I thought I would be better off here.
This is my Higher Power. I’m honest.
Anonymous
=========================
‘m dealing with someone who I told that if you haven’t
had enough go out and get some more.
Anonymous
=========================
For the first time in my life I felt this huge weight lift off of my chest.
Anonymous
=========================
I moved to New York City in the dead of winter.
That was my third step. It was freezing.
Anonymous
=========================
It didn’t matter whether I believed you’re not.
It was like the Nike commercial, just to do it.
Anonymous

I thought this was a religious program
I didn’t understand that it was a spiritual program.
Anonymous
============================

The doctor’s opinion tells me I’m screwed
but I’m going to be okay.
Anonymous
============================
I suffer from malignant self-centeredness.
Anonymous
============================
He said you weren’t a connoisseur,
you were a sewer.
Anonymous
============================
I went to a treatment center where apparently
they were pretty good at detecting b*******.
Anonymous
============================
He said he even though you don’t think you have a higher power;
he said ‘your homegroup, Bill W., was his higher power.’
Anonymous
============================
He told me that the first three steps didn’t require action,
only acceptance.
Anonymous
============================

I cried at the early morning meeting and here
I was terrified of eight and nine year olds in
my class that I had to teach.
Anonymous
============================
At 8 months sober I got a sponsor,
actually he adopted me.
Anonymous
============================
She said if you’re going to greet people you
could at least smile. I thought to myself,
now that’s a stretch.
Anonymous

=========================

Thank you for asking me to speak.
I want to welcome all the newcomers,
bleeding deacons,Old Timers. the people
celebrating anniversaries.
Anonymous

=========================

I guess I can’t blame anybody for being an alcoholic,
just happened to be.
Anonymous
=========================
My mother was widowed with four kids and
the nuns at the school said ‘we don’t raise Savage is here
‘and kicked me out.
Anonymous
=========================
I went to almost every school in Hawaii.
Anonymous
=========================
He said;’you know, you’re just like me, I’m an alcoholic.’
He never called me one though.
Anonymous
=========================
Somewhere along the line I didn’t get sick anymore,
and would go to tripler and ask,
“how are the drinkers coming along?”
Anonymous
=========================
The nurse asked me how was my drinking coming
along and I said not bad, and she said that’s not what
your blood test say.
Anonymous
=========================

A buddy of mine flew here to Hawaii, six thousand miles,
to take me to a meeting.
Anonymous
=========================
They told me a treatment that I had sober feet,
they would take me to meetings, even when I didn’t want to go.
Anonymous
=========================
I was quite shy, I drank to pass out,
and I was only a 4 years old girl.
Anonymous
=========================
My grandfather, who is now deceased,
was the founder of our fellowship in Jackson Hole Wyoming.
Anonymous
=========================
When I meditate I set my alarm for 6 minutes,
I want to do five minutes but I give myself a moment to fidget.
Anonymous

Anonymous
=========================
I’m certainly not the queen of thought and action.
Anonymous
=========================
There’s a meeting 20 yards from my house,
if I don’t go, I’m a prick.
Anonymous
=========================
My boyfriend used to say are you going to another meeting today?
And now he says, ‘you need a meeting’.
Anonymous
=========================
I did my drinking on the Boston Commons with all the
other Winos and they wouldn’t give me a drink
because I was such a pig.
Anonymous
=========================
I could do everything by myself except for the steps.
Anonymous
=========================
If you gave me something I had to give you something back.
I thought that way. I had to give you more than you gave me.
Anonymous
=========================
In Alcoholics Anonymous I’ve learned to just say thank you.
Anonymous
=========================
I’ve been in general service for the last 15 years.
To me it’s fun.
Anonymous
=========================
When someone thanks me I just say pay it forward.
Anonymous
=========================
A year ago I was going to into isolation mode,
one meeting a week, my home group.
Anonymous
=========================
My homegroup asked me to be a greeter,
it’s a really good way of getting out of isolation.
Anonymous
=========================
To me the most important steps are 10, 11, and 12. T
hey show me how it works.
Anonymous
=========================
I tried to follow the format.
It’s a group conscience that works for me.
Anonymous
=========================
My dad was like a samurai, he said shut up,
and I could only drink about it.
Anonymous
=========================
The fourth step scared the s*** out of me,
I was a Buddhist and the third step, Higher Power,
helped me.
Anonymous
=========================
That started my road to recovery.
Anonymous
=========================
Going to work in the morning I’m usually o someones
bumper in front of me and someone on my bumper
behind me and it can upsetting, and then one day I
looked up at the mountain and it’s Beauty changed
my attitude.
Anonymous
=========================

all the way through college.
Anonymous

My dad died as an alcoholic and when he died
he left the family provided for.
Anonymous
=========================

they kept me there all day, and then aorta burst, I woke up three days later.
Anonymous
=========================
My daughter has been inthe program for 14 years,
and she has two uncles who have been in for 20 years,
and I have three years coming up.
Anonymous
=========================
That feeling of being liked by someone
else was never for me.
Anonymous
=========================
I don’t want to be honest with you guys,
I don’t even want to be honest with myself.
Anonymous
=========================
I’ve had a few husbands along the way,
I left them in complete and incomprehensible
demoralization.
Anonymous
=========================
After my first husband I ended up with a wine broker.
Anonymous
=========================
I went to this meeting and I started
crying ‘ I’m never going to have fun again’
and this guy grabbed me,
gave me a big book and took me to a lot of meetings.
He saved my life.
Anonymous
=========================
I want to say that this is the best
reality show ever.
Anonymous
=========================
I thought I knew every story you’ve told
but I completely missed one of your husband’s.
Anonymous
=========================
He said to me ‘if you believe you will receive;
and if you doubt you’ll do without’.
Anonymous
=========================
I was completely broken, I was getting
worse and worse every day.
Anonymous
=========================
I had looked at the schedule for a month
before I decided to come in.
Anonymous
=========================
I started drinking at 13 or 14 years of age
and I just wanted to fit in,
I wanted to be in a group and I was of
the worst of the lot.
Anonymous
=========================
It wasn’t so hard until it got really bad.
Anonymous
=========================
It got to where they were fewer
fun times than there were bad times.
Anonymous
=========================
I would  be in my car with the windows rolled up,
sweating like crazy. That’s what I called a good time.
Anonymous
=========================
Step 12 is waiting for God to show me service.
Anonymous
=========================
I have got really skinny legs, I could sue for support.
Anonymous
=========================
My sponsor said oh! No wonder you feel strange.

Anonymous
=========================
I found that I wasn’t broken I was just sick.
Anonymous
=========================
Today my journey is awesome
because of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Anonymous
=========================
Today Everywhere I Go Everything Is Beautiful. The only thing I used to be able to do was stare at the ground.
Anonymous
=========================
My mind takes a long time to come around,
but I let my body bring me here.
Anonymous
=========================
God has opened up my door wide.
Anonymous
=========================
The last time I set with that many women
I was in County Jail.
Anonymous
=========================
I came here on a paper.
The more I listened the more alcoholic I became.
Anonymous
=========================
You guys are all passors.
You pass the message.
Anonymous
=========================
My sponsor said AA is for people who believe in God
and for people who don’t believe in God
and for people who think they are God.
Anonymous
=========================
There is more to quitting drinking did not drinking.
Anonymous
=========================
She asked me how my husband and I got along so well,
and I told her no expectations.
Anonymous
=========================
I come here and I actually hear words to my craziness.
Anonymous
=========================
As an alcoholic I’m not good at taking orders,
my whole family was like that.
Anonymous
=========================
I’ve had a total of 16 DUIs.
Anonymous
=========================
Hell I’ve had 500 moments of clarity but it didn’t help me.
I can only assume it was a power greater than myself.
Anonymous
=========================
My girlfriend said, you’re so spiritual you’re no earthly good.
Anonymous
=========================
I had a 5 to 7 year prison sentence hanging over me.
Anonymous
=========================
I used to wish that I wouldn’t piss on my shoes in the closet.
Anonymous
=========================
My wife and daughter are on the mainland right now
and that gives me a chance to go to a whole lot of meetings.
Anonymous

Anonymous
=========================
Just not drinking is not going to keep me sober.
Anonymous
=========================
 My Freewill is in my frontal cortex.
Anonymous

The last two months of my drinking I couldn’t get enough.
Anonymous
=========================
I couldn’t sleep for those two months and one night I said ‘God , please help me.’

This one guy ran himself over with his own car.
He would drink a bottle of vodka during the day
and at night he would switch to Scotch.
Anonymous
=========================
I always go back to what it was like before what it was like. Anonymous
=========================
Before I could take it or leave it and then I
stepped over the line and had to take it.
Anonymous
=========================
I took on a tractor-trailer truck and in the long run I guess I won because here I am.
Anonymous
=========================
When I came too, my doctor was looking
at me and I said ‘what the hell are you doing here?
And he said it’s okay, you’re going to be all right.
Anonymous
=========================
I went to a meeting and there was laughter there
and I haven’t laughed in a long time.
Anonymous
=========================
The three hardest words for an alcoholic is
‘I don’t know.’
Anonymous
=========================
Everyone in Alcoholics Anonymous has a voice
that gets to be heard. It can go all the way to New York.
Anonymous
=========================
This just gives me a better way to be a better listener.
Anonymous
=========================
I’m a loophole kind of guy and and the Traditions have closed the loops.
Anonymous
=========================
It seems like every time I walk by the Wal-mart
liquor section I get nervous .
anonymous
=========================
I would get in the shower, drink a beer, throw up , then drink a second one which would stay down. Anonymous
=========================
I would throw up off my deck every morning and
one of my chickens is there catching it.
Anonymous
=========================
I want to thank the secretary for asking me to speak
last week so that I’ve had something to obsess over for the last week.
Anonymous
=========================
My response was, why does everybody blame me for what I did.
Anonymous
=========================
These guys would spend the day at work grumbling
all day long and afterward they would open up a bottle
and immediately became happy, joyous and free.
