I can go 3 minutes without a heartbeat, 
no I can’t go without a daily meeting.

Those boxes were much easier to hide

I believed the lie. I have found the 
delusion is the denial of the lie. 
Then my choices were 
Insanity, prison or suicide.

When I was born my dad was a functioning 
alcoholic and there was no abuse.

When I went to school in Santa Clara 
a bunch of the guys pulled out a kegger,

I drank from 18 to 27 with what I call successfully.

I also took pills and that put my alcoholism in warp-drive.

to the hospital four years before I 
was the best doctor they had had, 
and now you’re downright scary.

When I came to Hawaii I had to sign a
 paper that said if I drank or did drugs 
I would immediately be fired.

I had that soul sickness and you guys

The last thing that you want to keep

I ran through a lot of sponsors for as small a
reason as they didn’t part the hair the right way.

The good thing is that we don’t have to 
drink for celebrations and for the tragedies.

As a teacher, this program has taught me

I know I can be sober for 24 hours,

It took a lot of Courage for me to watch 
my wife dieand slip into dementia When
I was at the hospice I would say that I was 
going to a meeting and she would try to get
 out of bed and say ‘me, to me too’.

use two very essential pieces of the literature, 
the Big Book and the meeting schedule.

When I came into the meetings the power 
of massive I saw amount of Freedom of Choice.

 but I am powerless over my alcoholism.

When I got sober I had a car held together by duct tape.

I tried to Snuff out that flame that wouldn’t go out, 
today day that flame is very central to my life.

On the airplane coming over here my 
girlfriend said do you know what keeps 
us in the air, and I started to come up 
with a bunch of crap and she said 
no, it’s the belief that you can fly.

Gratefulness led me to Vermont where 
I was in a very small room and a monk 
would come by and ask what I was 
meditating on today. I said gratefulness.

That little guy in the commercials that 
go up on that donkey on that I heal and
gets those coffee beans and brings 
them back to me, I’m grateful to him.

it was always on the inside.

nothing, and I went on a three-week binge.

My system collapsed and I thought

Everyone has to find that higher power 
in their lives their own way, it just happens. 
There’s no prescribing that.

for about 30 days.

cake and everyone was looking at him and

gave me a piece of cake and ended up 
working the steps with me.

My ex-wife and I are friends today 
and once in a while we even go down memory lane.

that I was drunk. If only she would stop

to do that and then I would do that.

My boyfriend and I were so stoned 
we were making peanut butter and 
jelly sandwiches. His mother walked
in and said’ what are you doing’?
We were putting the jelly and peanut 
butter on the counter, no bread.

I was totally out of control, and went 
to this meeting where they offered 
me a ticket to around up. I said sure,
 being a people-pleaser and then they said, 
can you take these two women with you? 
I had to go.

I went to a rehab where I quit smoking,
drinking and doing drugs.

As soon as I got out I was smoking, 
drinking and doing drugs.

My second day in rehab I was doing 
teaching aerobics and thought to myself, /
‘oh my God, I’m teaching a bunch of losers’. 
My next thought was oops I’m one too.

I’m still as busy today after 32 years 
as I was when I got here.

At five years I was told I had cancer, 
and I believed in alternative therapy
 and then next week I was in Boston 
doing alternative therapy.

 I was taught how to be a sober alcoholic
and how to attend meetings.

I didn’t know it was my last drink if I 
had, it I would have gotten drunk.

I’m the kind of person if I thought 
you were would hurt me, I would 
break down the door to get to you. 
I was blaming everyone, 
including my ex-husband, 
my ex-mother-in-law. I was never at fault.

I could be batshit crazy after a day of not drinking.

I had had enough Psychotherapy to kill a horse.

Now that I’m sober I can’t tear myself away 
from the mirror.

I’m going to be taking the grandkids
to school so I want to prepare you 
for the horrible loss you’re going to feel.

Spirituality is how we feel about what we do.

It took me 5 years to get my brain out of hock,
and then another five years to learn how to use it.

I’ve had to learn how to keep arrogance out of my skin.

Instead of telling someone what’s wrong with me, 
I tell them what’s going on with you.

 I can go 12 steps forward.

I’m grateful that the 12 coconuts is here and I look 
forward to it every time I come to the islands.

If I’m harboring hatred or self will in my head 
or mind, step 3 helps me to learn how to listen.

When our friends stay at our home and
I leave the house at 5:30 in the morning 
for a meeting, they asked where I’m 
going at that hour, and my husband 
says to a prayer meeting, and I said 
to him why would you say a prayer meeting? 
He said because you pray 3 times there every 
time I have been with you.

Once I get into prayer and meditation I get 
to see what I need and I find how fortunate 
I am that my house didn’t burn in Sonoma.

If the insurance company doesn’t pay up 
after your house is burned down, burnt there’s, 
that will get their attention.

If you fix the perfect piece of pottery you 
can still see the cracks. 
That’s why I keep coming back to the meetings.

The prayers are working, I just keep 
forgetting that this is a state.

with his consequences.

I told my husband I’m nervous I was 
the speaker and he said,
‘ all you have to do is tell them how 
wonderful your husband is.’

My father made his own beer and at
12 I tried it and it didn’t taste good. 
My dad was laughing and happy 
when he drank and I thought,
 ‘if I drink I can be happy too’.

When I had a drink’ I was always
looking for the drama always, 
whenever I drank, drama, drama.

Someone told me I was a little bit off, 
and said here have this.

I would buy a box of wine, 
take it out of the bag and 
put it in the freezer. 
Then I would slash the bag 
and drink slushy wine, let me tell you,
 it doesn’t taste good.

I was on my way to see my mother 
who was dying in the hospital. 
Setting in the freezing weather, 
I felt a warmth,my Higher Power 
lifted the fear.

long before I got sober, my mom got sober
 when I was 14.

There are times when you feel that juice, 
your Higher Power.

Who would do any of those things that we do?

Just imagine the garbage truck. Everyone takes 
their garbage out every day. 
We have garbage in our minds and have to empty 
our heads out everyday.

I was the best driver in the world when I drank.

I waited a year for things to change but 
unfortunately I didn’t want anything to change.

All I did was pet my cat for 10 years.

Finally I called my dad for help,
he’s a drug and alcohol counselor.

I left treatment and went to the Alano Club
and went to 5 meeting today. That was my detox.

I teach yoga, go hiking, and it helps to quiet in my mind.

We’re here to renew our vows and I never
thought that one flavor would suffice.

When the pressure gets too much for me
I want to know I’m out. My grandmother 
died of cirrhosis and my grandfather was very abusive.

gave in me a Pabst Blue Ribbon to numb the pain. 
I started carrying Bacardi run with me to school, 
to the movies, everywhere.

I tried many times to get sober at the University of Florida, 
I was put in treatment, I don’t know why, 
but I couldn’t remember anything.

but I try not to go there in my head today.
 I went back to school, became an addiction counselor,
and have learned a new way of living.

back-up plan if I didn’t get sober.

I discovered Gallo port wine in a box and 
until the end of my drinking that was my favorite.

evening but I really wanted to watch the football

and I thought I had died and gone to Hell.

just are as they are, when I’m not,

my mind is out to get me and if I 
don’t come to meetings I won’t be 
able to exchange ideas and see 
how it is working in my life.

I came into the program in 1987 
and I didn’t plan on getting sober, 
I was a mess, but I kept coming back.

which I chased into Insanity in hell.

 and woke up one morning and said that I had had it.

this solution was in my head.
 I went and got a drink with my husband, 
who had never seen me drink. I

I didn’t fit in, but I was there.

I had always thought that there was

getting drunk and bars, 
it was just an internal feeling,

 late onset bipolar disease.

The secretary walked up to me at 
my first meeting and asked me to 
read how it works and when I got 
to step 7 I started crying.

not blaming them for my feelings.

I didn’t even know that my hair 
was Curly until I got sober.

Early in sobriety I would get out 
of my car and bang on other people’s cars. 
I don’t do that anymore.

I believe the craziest thing I ever did 
was get in a fight with a woman in Spain, 
who, I thought was going to bite my finger off.

I’ve decided that I’m still me and 
I always have been me, like it or not.

I had acceptance that I was 
an alcoholic for a long, long time. 
I came here and found a different 
definition of acceptance.
