MARCH 2018 HEARD AT MEETINGS

I remember getting in a fight with my landlord,
because I didn’t have the rent, 
and he smashed a machete upside my face.

I realize the people in my past would have 
been much better off if I had not been in their lives.

Someone mentioned that 
enduring gives you self esteem.

Sometimes I play god and I don’t know 
what to do so I called him a Higher Power.

I remember my school teacher saying 
“you think you’re smart, come on up 
here and teach the class”. I did.

I look for God in everything I see say or do.

I remember being in jail and cutting some 
cheese and someone said is that soprano 
or alter and someone else said no its revelly.

I said I was used to being around drunks 
and someone said that’s because we like
to be around things that are familiar.

I had low self esteem on steroids. 
I couldn’t show it but it was there.

 I thought of myself ad pathetic and how could 
anyone have self esteem if they are that far 
below the radar.Anonymous My purpose is to be able to find and keep in contact with my higher power throughout the day.

I was coming around the happy hour sober sometimes not, 
my wife was sober so it was rough o her.

This is a program of self-discovery and I’m so
very grateful for that.

I got to take a look at my motives 
and myself seeking nature.

I’m grateful for the structure that this Fellowship has given me.

I remember my son was two years old and someone 
was talking to me and I looked around and couldn’t find my son. 
I saw him way over there going into the restroom.

 Today? Today I have a good job and
in my family is all together. 
That gives me today I have a good job

That gives me one more day to come 
up with a solution to whatever my situation might be.

I have had a couple of my siblings pass away 
and have been able to go back home and help 
support my parents in their grief.

Our synopsis in our brains are hard wired to drinking 
so I have to come to these meeting.

My thinking got me here, got me into thinking 
which led to my drinking.

As you can see from my shirt I’m Harish,
 happy to St Patty’s Day.

 My mom was a heroin addict and my 
father was an alcoholic, so my siblings took care of me.

 My mom kidnapped me and there was a big custody battle.

I was molested at a very young age by a neighbor. 
I didn’t think that affected me until I got into the fellowship.

 My aunt raised me for a while but her husband 
said it was either me or him so I had to go live with my grandmother.

I became a ward of the state and ended up in group homes.

 I had platinum hair and was trying to fit in.
 My father died and I donated his body to a hospital.

I got pregnant and gave the baby up.
 Fives months later  I got pregnant again.

 I remember always looking at the stars, 
I never drew is sober breath in the nine
 months that I was pregnant. I was never sober.

I quit my job for the state which I had worked at 4 for
 years because my heart was broken,
 I retired from that job and then went on a bender.
 I went down real fast.

 My first it Alcoholics Anonymous meeting was
 at an AA convention and a whole lot of women 
there were laughing and obviously enjoying life.

 I relapsed for 4 hours, went into a blackout, 
slap my boyfriend and fortunately I didn’t hit anyone with my car.

I had gotten so used to running from the pain when I got here.

Had a lot of pain when I got here and I thought it was 
hanging on to me and I had to learn that I was hanging on to it, 
and you guys taught me how to Let It Go.

I believe sometimes we have to think 
more about the people that the alcoholics have hurt.

I’m glad to know that I’m an alcoholic and today
 I can wake up with a clear head.

I believe that if you are raised around an 
alcoholic that you have a propensity for it.

I didn’t have very good coping skills when I sobered up, 
everyone was dropping in and dropping out. This was the 60s.

He askd what had happened and I said that 
“I got arrested it and he said you didn’t get arrested you got rescued”.

Have a good week sober went to help a friend 
of mine and ended up getting drunk with him.

My uncle died last year and he was coming up, 
very shortly, on 62 years when he died.

I went to the gym and saw my abs pushing
through my Sprintex shirt. I wouldn’t got myself a chili dog.

I have a desire of responsibility and a lack of maturity.

If I look for bitterness in people, I’m going to be bitter, 
if I look for gratitude I will become humble.

My purpose today is to have a purpose.

I would wake up in the morning wondering how 
I was not going to drink or how I was going to get one.

I used to turn my glass upside down and I forgot to 
one day in the restaurant and 9 years later I had to call a good friend. 
I had no idea that he was in AA.

I wanted to be sober for 2 weeks, 
not 30 or 40 years but just two weeks without a drink.

When I finally did get sober God allowed me to employ my skills.

I knew I was going to get old I just didn’t think 
it would happen this fast.

I discovered that my thoughts and prayers,
is a great reality is deep within me, 
then my thoughts are prayers.

Once we get the monkey off our back it’s the 
case of keeping him in the cage.

 and now I have 5 years.

Just because I’m coming up on 43 years of sobriety doesn’t 
mean that I don’t have to keep coming to meetings.

and a grateful alcoholic. I guess, I was thinking he was a liar.

those people that I don’t like.

I had to speak at a treatment center and I thought 
a good subject would be if you don’t want to be here 
why are you here.

It is so nice to be able to stand up for myself now.

You folks are the ones that I didn’t like, 
you’ve helped me the best to see my 
defects of character and I will hang around 
the meetings for a while.

When I was 2 years sober someone said now
you can say you have ears.

I’m one of those who chose to hang out with some 
of my defects which was to hang around Hotel Street.

I knew that if I hung around here I
could be an Oldtimer with two years.

 I had a friend who said he had hung around
 here just long enough to become an Alcoholic.

The last mosquito that bit me ended up in the Betty Ford Clinic.

I was going to write that church and let them know how I feel. 
I’m didn’t send it. But I looked at it and decided not to send it 
and it helped me to see my part.

I like to know what I’m getting into.

M disease is always playing with me but today 
I can step back and look at it.

The miracle of Alcoholics Anonymous is that I don’t 
have to choose another path, this one is working in my life.

I might not always be there for the fellowship 
but the fellowship is always there for me.

Your way of doing a meeting in Hawaii is sort 
of like a darwinian galapagos octopus type of 
meeting and there’s always a lot of amazing
 things going on and I see that you have just 
a lot of meetings here.
