MAY 2017 HEARD AT MEETINGS
 
I said to myself I won’t drink for the month of June 
and it was the most miserable time of my life.

After four years my therapist said I needed to go into treatment.

 She clearly saw that I was in a world of hurt.

 I found that I can’t do this thing alone, 
I need you. I would never have been able to admit that.

I have a crystal ball now, I have the gift of consequences.

That life out there was necessary for me to be standing here today.

The point is that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines.

If they drank like I did we would have gotten along just fine.

In Japan is a hundred degrees I enjoyed drinking,

we are all loners except we do it together’.

Once in awhile I hear an Old-Timers say 
I don’t get anything out of this meeting. 
My reply is, what have you contributed to the meeting,
 did you read a newcomer? 
Did you help set up? 
Have you participated in the meeting?

I didn’t know I was crazy when I got here, 
I thought I was an intellectual, everyone else knew I was crazy.

In 1987 I was introduced you guys with a get well card 
because of drunk driving. In 1996 I got my third introduction.

He look me eyes and asked me if I was teachable 
and I looked at him back and said yes. 
I had no idea how self-seeking and selfish I was.

It says in the book that we don’t straighten out 
until we take care of the spiritual dilemma, 
which is what I was in.

The trouble was that after I quit drinking 
all my problems showed up.

I made a decision to turn my will, 
which was my thinking, over to God.

I found that doing Service was what would keep me spiritually fit.

At 44 I did something really cool, I moved back in 
with my mother and father.

I read that John Wooden said ‘make every moment a masterpiece’.

I didn’t know if I could make it or not. 
I Did the ‘ My Way program’ and hanging 
out with old friends. I went out after a year.

I was doing the 1-2-3 Shuffle and then drink 1,2,3.

I wanted to impress this girl so I had just one, 
nothing happened, and I had another and browned out. 
I came to throwing a bowling ball.

I could remember, vaguely, jumping out 
of a moving car into a snowbank.

It’s my thinking, my thinking is my worst enemy.

After I drank my last drink, beer, I was miserable 
and my wife said ‘for God’s sake go to a meeting.’

Think of the alcoholic as a glass of water, he’s just a glass of water. 
Throw him into the ocean and he becomes part of the whole.

 I found out was powerless over people who 
used alcohol and then I found I was powerless 
over people places and things.

I should probably go to a meeting at least once a day, 
maybe more.

I just get to a meeting with a positive attitude and load up my gratitude.

 I didn’t drink until I was 30 but I sure had all the attitudes.

The priest told me to get out of my marriage.

I was going to a counselor and she thought 
I had stepped over the line.

I was always trying to blame everyone else for my problems.

Sure it was always a beautiful day but I always screwed it up.

 I will know Serenity and gain peace, that’s a hell of a promise.

I do have a home group, I wish this were it, 
but the airfare would kill me.

I just had a cup of coffee so it’s going to be a wild ride this morning.

It was difficult trying to identify you guys having come from another planet.

I read Dr. Bob’s story and something came down 
and lit the pilot light in my heart.

I realized what this guy gets after reading the big book
 and I realized that I needed help.

Occasionally I still think I can do things that I used to do.

If there had been a family motto it would have said 
“what’s wrong?”

He said that families can push your buttons because 
they’re the ones who installed them.

The whole st. Francis Prayer is based on cause and effect.

The only thing I could think of was to get on my knees.

They put me in the woods with food for 3 days
and a notepad and left me to write my fourth step.

I was working as a bartender in my boss pissed me off, 
so I quit and I saw whole wall of solutions and I got the hell out of there.

When I’m in service I find that I get out of myself.

I’m a scientific person and science can’t explain 
this so should I go to the spiritual route.

My happiness and Joy are deep.

I try and meet with my sponsor at least once a week, 
I move around a lot so I’ve had several sponsors.

When I am aligned with my higher power I’m okay, 
but I’m never sure when I’m aligned so I go to meetings.

I was taking a DUI class I realize that I was 
just a misaligned drinker.

I was born a long time ago, I was just a baby.

The 12 Steps originated to make me small enough to do the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Two weeks into sobriety my son went into a coma and you folks showed up for him.

I was in the coffee maker at this meeting and they had a group conscience and said, ‘I didn’t need to carry 45 pistol with me no one’s going to steal the cups or ashtrays’.

I just gave up my commitment at the county jail, a gated community where everyone wears orange jumpsuits. Anonymous

I can be a service in Alcoholics Anonymous
and a servant in the community today

At home things are getting rough and my husband said ‘im not going to sit here and watch you drink yourself the death in front of our child’. anonymous

 Drinking is always an option, you don’t have to, but it’s always an option. Anonymous

What does a family do when the husband relapses. I
t tells us in the family afterwards exactly what to do.

For my first three years I was in a relationship and I found myself back in the rooms.

In 1984 I went into treatment to save my marriage, not for myself, I went out after 10 days.

I 1999 my second son went to live with his father and my other son stayed with me.

Someone told me that I didn’t have a drinking problem if I only drank beer.

I didn’t want to kill myself, mainly because I didn’t want the kids to remember me that way.

I come from a family of Alcoholics. My parents and my five siblings. Anonymous

My first drink was when I was nine years old, I ended up in the emergency room and they said I had the highest alcohol content for any child ever have my age.

I didn’t get a lot of money, cars or a house, but I got was something to fill the hole in my heart.

 200 of them and knew that I was going to go to hell,

An Italian guy said that he took LSD and climbed
to the top of morell Rock. I had to get another 
higher power because he had been higher on 
the the rock than my higher power.

As I would drive my car I would sniff the vodka 
and get angry at myself because I knew I was an Alcoholic.

I told him that I was interviewing people for sponsorship, 
he was a little bit taken aback but began to work with me.

At some point I started thanking God for my day.

I had to get over my anger at God for abandoning me 
and then I realized that I had abandoned God.

People kept saying that it was a one-day-at-a-time program. 
I decided I wasn’t going to drink until the Red Sox won a pendant. 
In 2004 they won and I didn’t drink.

I am present today and I don’t have to go to a doctor to fix my car.

Every AA meeting is an assurance that we are recovering.

Try living on the beach for a while,

I hadn’t had anything to drink and went into Benihana of Tokyo, and the bartender said ‘would you like a Long Island iced tea’ and I said ‘sure give me one’ he said ‘can I see your ID’, uh sure I turned 21 today and he said ‘first ones on me’ I don’t remember the rest of the day.

how they hit the target I have no idea. 
He was a drunk.

I announced myself as a visitor but actually I live 6 months here and 6 months in San Diego and this is the first time I’ve been to the 12 coconuts this is beautiful down here.

My older sister had sex before me, drank and did drugs before me and I followed her into the program.

I was always swearing off and at the end of the day I always drank. Anonymous

My family got onto me about my drinking and I said that I wanted to quit but I ended up drinking out of those airplane bottles.

One day I went to bed drunk the next day I went to bed sober, go figure. Anonymous

I had told my daughter that there was no God. 
Then I came here and you told me I had to have 
a power greater than myself.

Then one day I was on the monkey bars and halfway through I prayed and something happened to me, it was sort of like the burning bush experience.

I have friends that are not in the program and they could never have through what we have gone through, especially the support we give each other.

 Then one day I found myself having to do a step four about not doing a step four.

At four months sober I have a baby on the way and I’m enthused, it’s a life sentence that I look forward to.

My sponsor asked me what was the most important word in the Step 2 and I said something and he said no it’s, it’s insanity.

I asked him was  I insane and he said you’ve been doing the same thing over and over for years expecting different results.

I was making the wrong decisions because
 my first decision was to take a drink first.

 It’s very easy to start Romancing the drink.

If your higher power is not working for you ,
 fire it and get another one.

The third step really works here and right now.

I got here 34 years ago and a women said 
she hadn’t had a drink in one year and I 
thought to myself ‘yeah really!’

 My mind said that she was lying that nobody could do that.

Yet here I am 34 years later and the newcomer sitting over there thinking ‘yeah they can’t do that’.

You folks kept throwing me a life jacket and I kept swimming against the tide. Yeah like someone said this morning, I was a pain in the ass. Anonymous

When I got here I had to read everything at least 20 times before I could understand what was going on.

I have even been lonely in relationships.

 Like everyone else I went through a lot of things, 
Got married a couple times and divorced a couple times.

The spiritual experience is the Coconuts of the program.

When I was out there I was terrified of the Bible bangers.
