It’s the good and the bad and the angry,
and today I’ve come out of hell.

I don’t like to give drunk a logs but
I earned my seat here.

At some point I Justified my drinking and got married.
Then I became pregnant and because
I didn’t want to have a fetal alcoholic baby,
I would quit drinking for 9 months because
I didn’t want to have to stay home take
care of a baby that had been alcoholic damaged.

My husband, was an enabler l and he
would greet me every morning with
coffee and two aspirins.

I went to a divorce lawyer and told her that
I didn’t want my husband to take my baby,
and she said “why would he take your baby”
and I said because I’m an alcoholic and
she said “why don’t you stop”. I had never
thought of that.

Through my divorce proceedings
I didn’t want to drink in my enabler
kept trying to get me drunk.

I remember those mosquitoes detoxing
off of my ass when I was passed out in the Park.

When I got here I was a character.
And had no character. Today I have
character and try to be not a character.

My parents bought 12 cases of beer for
my graduation and I can see my dad in
the back counting 1, two, 3,…..
This was for my high school graduation.

I asked my dad if I could have my money in
my envelopes for my graduation,
which had cash in them, so I checked into a
motel and continue drinking.

My dad had two meetings in our house
a week and I learned to Serenity Prayer
but kept on drinking.

My boyfriend had 2 years died,
and when I came to Alcoholics Anonymous
I was Furious at God for taking him away from me.

After 18 I have never had a non alcoholic drink again.

I heard this lady say that if I didn’t
like my God I could pray to hers.

It took me 47 days to be able to stand
up and say that I was an alcoholic and
how many days I had. I have thirty-six years sober

I started throwing my shoes under
the bed and when I would get down
in the morning to get them
I would pray while I was on my knees.

When I ask my Dad how do you pray he said,
I thank him everyday for being in my life”.

When I went to visit my sister in
Napa Valley I ask them did they always
go to Al-Anon and she said,
no dear, only when you’re here.

My whole life is riding on what I do today.

I go to parties and usually stay for
about an hour, eating the steaks
and enjoying the conversation and
then when they start fighting I go home.

I was kind of shy kid boy standing back,
and then I had a drink of my old man’s
moonshine and things changed.

My nickname was Budman.

I always knew I was an alcoholic but
I didn’t want to do anything about it.

When someone said something
that I really liked, after the meeting
I would go and make sure I shake his hand.

When I sobered up I I wondered
why the guy that handled my finances
could go into three vacations a year.
Hell, he was taking my money.

I’m so grateful to the fellowship because
through the program I’ve was able to find God.

I kept coming back and they told me
that I only had to do the program
one day at a time.

Eventually I was able to stay sober
for a year and then the work began.
This month I will celebrate 25 years.

It makes me sad when some people can’t get it.

I was married for 21 years, I have four children
in sobriety and I hang with the women.

I went back to my church but my
focus is on sobriety.

I was crazy trying to control this that
and everything else and the third step
helped me with that.

Sometimes we play victims, and
sometimes we are,my stepfather
molested me in childhood and I
hung on to the victimization.

I always worked in bars and it was
my lifestyle and I loved it.

I had a DUI lawyer who know me so well that
he asked me to do a commercial for him.

I decided to get out of bars so I went all
over the Big Island selling alcohol.

I got another DUI and my boyfriend said,
“you’ve got a problem”, and I said,
“I don’t have a problem” and I moved out.

I went to a meeting on the big island and said
I just wanted to learn how to handle my drinking.
They laughed and said keep coming back.

I had an opportunity to come back to
Honolulu and I only had 6 months and
I locked myself in a hotel room and got drunk.

My sobriety date is 2001 because I
made a decision to turn my life around.

On Easter my nephew’s father was
arrested for child abuse and he had
three prior DUIs and I think he is one of us,
but I can’t say anything unless he asked.

I used to call the garbage can in my refrigerator.

I am so grateful that my recovery
can out-talk my disease.

If you do the steps you literally turn
into a completely different person.

Service gets me out of myself,
even if only for a few moments.

I didn’t buy that I was an alcoholic
when I came in here, I just wanted
to cut back a little.

I wasn’t a bad person but my alcoholism
created problems for me.

I also have food allergies and it
means total abstence for me,
just like alcohol.

I went to the doctor, I thought I had to weight problem,
turns out I was an Alcoholic.

They told me when I was in treatment that
if I wasn’t there, that I should be in an
Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

I was asked to share meeting and I studied
for two weeks on the talk and it turned out
to be the Salvation Army in the other sobriety
there was three weeks. I had thought it was
the old timers.

It says it should have my first meeting was pause,
and one guy got up and said that he wished he had
paused when he put a gun to his girlfriend’s head.
Another guy said he wished he had pause when
he had robbed a liquor store.
