DAILIES

JOYFUL DISCOVERIES
We realize we know only a little.  God will constantly disclose more to you and to us.  Ask Him in your morning meditation what you can do each day for the man who is still sick.  The answers will come, if your own house is in order.  But obviously you cannot transmit something you haven’t got.  See to it that your relationship with Him is right, and great events will come to pass for you and countless others.  This is the Great Fact for us.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p.  164

Sobriety is a journey of joyful discovery.  Each day brings new experience, awareness, greater hope, deeper faith, broader tolerance.  I must maintain these attributes or I will have nothing to pass on.

Great events for this recovering alcoholic are the normal everyday joys found in being able to live another day in God’s grace.

PROGRESSIVE GRATITUDE
Gratitude should go forward, rather than backward.
— AS BILL SEES IT, p. 29
I am very grateful that my Higher Power has given me a second chance to live a worthwhile life. Through Alcoholics Anonymous, I have been restored to sanity. The promises are being fulfilled in my life. I am grateful to be free from the slavery of alcohol. I am grateful for peace of mind and the opportunity to grow, but my gratitude should go forward rather than backward. I cannot stay sober on yesterday’s meetings or past Twelfth-Step calls; I need to put my gratitude into action today. Our co-founder said our gratitude can best be shown by carrying the message to others. Without action, my gratitude is just a pleasant emotion. I need to put it into action by working Step Twelve, by carrying the message and practicing the principles in all my affairs. I am grateful for the chance to carry the message today!

The Truth is we ARE truly spiritual beings having a human experience,
and ours is a fluid, co-creative reality that is ever-changing and backed
by Infinite Potential, nothing less than Love Itself.

I had you start feeling and owning my own feelings
that is probably the hardest part about this program.

Today, more than ever before, life must be characterized by a sense of Universal responsibility, not only nation to nation and human to human, but also human to other forms of life.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 143 Insights
Review: “My mind holds only what I think with God.” and
“In quiet I receive God’s Word today. All that I give is given to myself.”
God’s Word is Love. Its attributes are peace and joy. It makes sense that to receive God’s Word, I must be at peace. The maze of conflicting thoughts of the ego cannot conceive of the simple unity of Love. Learning to quiet my mind is an essential step in preparing myself to receive God’s Word. If I want the peace of God, I must welcome the peace of God.

If I am attracted to the drama and conflict of the ego, I will not welcome God’s peace. As I learn to recognize that nothing in this world offers me anything I really want, my willingness to quiet my mind increases. Quieting my mind is a gift I give myself, for it is the gift of healing, of returning to my Self as I was created in Love.

Today I ask the Holy Spirit to help me see the meaninglessness and valuelessness of the ego’s drama’s. I seek to clear the way to a quiet mind and receive God’s Word of Love unchanged and unchangeable. With the Holy Spirit’s help I will see the Love in all my brothers. I will not be deceived by behaviors or circumstances in form. I will offer only the vision of Love to my brothers so that I might receive Love’s gifts.

In another lesson, Jesus says “God is but Love and therefore so am I.” Because I am Love, my mind in reality can hold only Love. In the Text it says that Love means sharing all Love with all. This means that as I return to the awareness of the Love that I am, I also return to the awareness that as Love, I am eternally giving all Love to all. And because Love is one, I am receiving all Love from all.

Because I have tried to make something different from God’s Love real, I experience something different from God’s Love. As I am willing to quiet my mind, I am learning to sink below the chatter of the differences I made up. Below the chatter there is peace, there is the quiet mind. There is God’s Word. There is Love. There is simplicity. There is one Self, where giving and receiving are the same. In this sacred place of quiet, nothing has changed from Love. Here is the eternal now, the holy instant, the changeless unity of Love. My mind holds only what I think with the Love that I am.

Holy Spirit, lead me today, that I may be aware of the Love that is always present in all circumstances. Holy Spirit, help me remember that I can only receive Love and give Love in truth, because my mind holds only what I think with Love. Help me remember this today. Help me extend only Love. It is in this way that I will remember that I am only Love. Help me remember to rest in Love today. Help me to remember that only Love is real.

William Hermanns conversations
Einstein’s conversations with William Hermanns were recorded over a 34-year correspondence. In the conversations Einstein makes various statements about the Christian Churches in general and the Catholic Church in particular: “When you learn the history of the Catholic Church, you wouldn’t trust the Center Party. Hasn’t Hitler promised to smash the Bolsheviks in Russia? The Church will bless its Catholic soldiers to march alongside the Nazis” (March 1930).[60] “I predict that the Vatican will support Hitler if he comes to power. The Church since Constantine has always favoured the authoritarian State, as long as the State allows the Church to baptize and instruct the masses” (March 1930).[67] “So often in history the Jews have been the instigators of justice and reform whether in Spain, Germany or Russia. But no sooner have they done their job than their ‘friends’, often blessed by the Church, spit in their faces” (August 1943).[68]
“But what makes me shudder is that the Catholic Church is silent. One doesn’t need to be a prophet to say, ‘The Catholic Church will pay for this silence…I do not say that the unspeakable crimes of the Church for 2,000 years had always the blessing of the Vatican, but it vaccinated its believers with the idea: We have the true God, and the Jews have crucified Him.’ The Church sowed hate instead of love, though the ten commandments state: Thou shalt not kill” (August 1943).[69] “With a few exceptions, the Roman Catholic Church has stressed the value of dogma and ritual, conveying the idea theirs is the only way to reach heaven. I don’t need to go to Church to hear if I’m good or bad; my heart tells me this” (August 1943).[70] “I don’t like to implant in youth the Church’s doctrine of a personal God, because that Church has behaved so inhumanly in the past 2,000 years… Consider the hate the Church manifested against the Jews and then against the Muslims, the Crusades with their crimes, the burning stakes of the inquisition, the tacit consent of Hitler’s actions while the Jews and the Poles dug their own graves and were slaughtered. And Hitler is said to have been an altar boy!” (August 1943).[70]
“Yes” Einstein replied vehemently, “It is indeed human, as proved by Cardinal Pacelli (the future Pope Pius XII), who was behind the Concordat with Hitler. Since when can one make a pact with Christ and Satan at the same time?” (August 1943).[70] “The Church has always sold itself to those in power, and agreed to any bargain in return for immunity.” (August 1943)[71] “If I were allowed to give advice to the Churches,” Einstein continued, “I would tell them to begin with a conversion among themselves, and to stop playing power politics. Consider what mass misery they have produced in Spain, South America and Russia.” (September 1948).[72]
In response to a Catholic convert who asked “Didn’t you state that the Church was the only opponent of Communism?” Einstein replied, “I don’t have to emphasise that the Church [sic] at last became a strong opponent of National Socialism, as well.” Einstein’s secretary Helen Dukas added, “Dr. Einstein didn’t mean only the Catholic church, but all churches.”[73] When the convert mentioned that family members had been gassed by the Nazis, Einstein replied that “he also felt guilty—adding that the whole Church, beginning with the Vatican, should feel guilt.” (September 1948)[73]
When asked for more precise responses, Einstein replied: “About God, I cannot accept any concept based on the authority of the Church. […] As long as I can remember, I have resented mass indoctrination. I do not believe in the fear of life, in the fear of death, in blind faith. I cannot prove to you that there is no personal God, but if I were to speak of him, I would be a liar. I do not believe in the God of theology who rewards good and punishes evil. My God created laws that take care of that. His universe is not ruled by wishful thinking but by immutable laws.”[74] William Miller of Life Magazine who was present at this meeting described Einstein as looking like a “living saint” and speaking with “angelic indifference.”[75]
