Righteous Indignation
“The positive value of righteous indignation is theoretical – especially for alcoholics. It leaves every one of us open to the rationalization that we may be as angry as we like provided we can claim to be righteous about it.”
<<< >>>
When we harbored grudges and planned revenge for defeats, we were really beating ourselves with the club of anger we had intended to use on others. We learned that if we were seriously disturbed, our very first need was to quiet that disturbance, regardless of who or what we thought caused it.

VERNON HOWARD
“Let’s see if you can understand this in connection with your
own life. When people don’t get what they want, you know what
they want to do? They want to hurt someone, they want to strike
out and hit someone. It hurt so bad here, they wanted to hurt
someone else. I’m telling you this is the world, it is exactly that.
  If you ever got hurt by another person, you got hurt by a hurt-person
and if you ever hurt anyone else it is because you were hurt yourself.
Don’t you use that as an excuse.
  Look how simple it is. You never ever have any right to hurt any other
human being on earth in the smallest way, and that means nothing to the
average human being. Look at it, look at the kind of world you live in,
look at the people, look at yourself. The primary motivation of the
average human being is to hurt someone else in order to give himself
a false thrill, so that he feels what he calls good which is
self-destruction. That is it.
  You want to get healthy, inwardly healthy, want to get truly spiritually
healthy, you begin to investigate what I just said for yourself. Don’t
hide away from it anymore, don’t push it away. You’ll never succeed in
pushing it away. Incidentally, you can get rid of it, but you can’t push
it away. You can’t hide because it will keep coming back to haunt you
endlessly as it has up to now.”

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity to
Accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And the Wisdom to know the difference.
We were now at Step Three.
 Many of us said to our Maker, as we understood Him:
“God, I offer myself to Thee – to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the
bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them
may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy
will always!”
We thought well before taking this step making sure we were ready; that we could at last abandon
ourselves utterly to Him.
Seventh Step Prayer
-The Seventh Step Prayer is from page 76. The Big Book
   When ready, we say something like this:
“My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now
remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you
and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen.”
We have then completed Step Seven.
-(Both derived from page 86 in the Big Book)
St Francis Prayer
-From Chapter 11 of “Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions”
“Lord, make me a channel of they peace,
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.”
St. Francis Assisi (1182-1228).

The result of the above is that most Americans of European ancestry involved in sufism at the present time belong to non-Islamic organizations, the members of which believe very strongly that sufism is a universal wisdom teaching that is independent of Islam. Many of these groups practice what is called “sufi dancing,” which involves a European folk dance format in which men and women hold hands together in a circle, while singing spiritual songs from Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Sufi traditions. In some of thesse Western sufi groups, members attend gatherings for a “Universal Worship” service in which passages from different scriptures of the major world religions are read in sequence.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 122 Insights
“Forgiveness offers everything I want.”
In yesterday’s lesson we practiced looking beyond bodies and focusing on the Light in our brothers and ourselves. Today we are told that God holds the door open to a warm and safe place and He invites us to come in. We are told when we enter, we enter into Light and form disappears. The imagery of formless, boundless Light is helping us shift our attention away from forms and what forms seem to do. It brings us to the awareness that illusionary forms do not matter in truth.

Light always unites with Light. Light never resists Light. Light does not place limits on itself. It does not stop Itself. It always expands and enters wherever It is welcome. To be in darkness, barriers must be erected to keep the Light out. The moment the barriers are removed, Light rushes in to fill the space where darkness was. Darkness has no power over Light. We experience darkness only when we do not welcome Light and build barriers against It. Forgiveness brings down the barriers. As we learn to practice looking beyond form, letting the veil of form be lifted, we see the Light that has always been there. We see the changeless in the midst of change.

Holy Spirit, help me today to keep my attention on the changeless and the real, to not value the changeable and temporary. Help me to see the Light beyond all form. I am willing to receive God’s gifts today. I am willing to forgive.

Forgiveness means allowing the veil to be lifted. Forgiveness means accepting Heaven’s answer to the hell we made. Forgiveness means accepting God’s gifts. Forgiveness means opening to the Light of God and letting it heal all our false perceptions of separation. Forgiveness offers joy and peace and happiness. Forgiveness offers everything I want.

In this lesson, Jesus is really focusing on the benefits of forgiveness. He is showing us that holding grievances only brings us hell and we don’t have to continue living in hell. It just takes a little willingness to accept Heaven’s answer. It takes a willingness to open to God’s plan for salvation. Heaven is always there waiting for us to open the door and let It in. The face of Christ is always there to see in our brother. That is how we see it in ourselves.

Today I am willing to practice opening to Heaven’s healing Light. Today I am willing to practice lifting the veil to see the face of Christ in my brother. Love is changeless. Heaven is changeless. Today I am willing to look beyond the constantly changing forms and circumstances to the eternally changeless Light of God That is always there waiting for my acceptance. Today I am willing to be happy. “Forgiveness offers everything I want.”
As I read this beautiful lesson my first thought was, “Yeah, maybe if I do this lesson every day for a hundred years.” I seem to be so attached to my grievances. But I reminded myself that I am not alone in this. The Course promises us much support.

I am really tired of carrying around these grievances, and I can see how they are making me so unhappy. It is a mystery to me why they are so hard to give up.

As I was reading this lesson, I’m answering, “Yes I want happiness, yes I want quietness”, etc. etc. And then the lesson goes into all the wonderful things forgiveness offers like joy and happiness. It seems to me that I can only dream of those things. And then comes the answer to achieve all these things, which is the part I apparently have such a hard time with, the part that keeps me from experiencing these things.

Until the Course came around I didn’t realize there was another way of living. I think I always knew in my heart there had to be something better, but I never knew what it was or how to achieve it. I think Jesus knows that we’re extremely attached to what we made, so He is gently trying to remind us with His lovely poetry. It’s almost like He’s saying “you had this before, remember?”

So many times I get frustrated because I can’t seem to do what it takes to have peace, but the continuous practice of these lessons along with the power of the Holy Spirit helps me have hope and stay focused. The thoughts of this Course give me the only true life I’ve experienced in my time here on earth.

==================================
   Manifesting Himself as the creative Cosmic Intelligent Vibration, and using the help of the storm of delusive relativity, God forms out of Himself all finite vibratory waves of mind, energy, and matter: electrons, protons, atoms, molecules, cells, and blocks of solid matter—clusters of island universes floating in the sphere of space, surrounded by wandering radiations.
     Thus Intelligent Cosmic Vibration is the first manifested cause of all created things, though the different finite forms of matter are created or caused secondarily by arrangement and combinations of certain basic forms: cells derive from molecules, molecules from atoms, atoms from electrons and protons, electrons and protons from lifetrons, and lifetrons from thoughtrons2 of the Infinite.
     Creation exists, and is caused by God; therefore God exists. We can say that intelligent creation exists because of an intelligent God. But who created God, out of whom all things else have come? The Infinite Himself. † The law of causation applies only to finite objects; it does not apply to the Infinite. As all waves on the ocean become dissolved in the ocean, so all finite objects manifesting from the aforesaid finite causes lose themselves in their Eternal Source. Similarly, the law of causation operates outwardly in creation, but is lost in the Infinite.
