DAILIES

Eye Opener (1950) Millions of dollars that have been spent by us alcoholics in that futile chase after happiness, only to find that what we purchased was not happiness but misery, want, illness and despair.By calling off the hunt, by quitting our quest for fun that we had always believed hid in the bottom of a bottle, we found happiness. The price of this happiness was only that we give happiness to others, and we learned that the more we gave, the more we had. We could eat our cake and have it, too.

Vernon Howard’s SECRETS OF LIFE

“Q: I need more strength for climbing the mountain.A: One characteristic of a sheep-like mind is its refusal to stepforward all alone. Such a weak mind always wants another person tolead or accompany it. So one condition for climbing the mountain isto not expect other people to go with you. See the necessity forclimbing, for that will give you strength to climb alone. “Treasury of Positive Answers, # 400

Twenty Four Hours A Day March 24,2016

Thought for the Day

Strength comes from honestly telling your own experiences with drinking. In religion, they call it confession. We call it witnessing or sharing. You give a personal witness, you share your past experiences, the troubles you got into, the hospitals, the jails, the break-up of your home, the money wasted, the debts, and all the foolish things you did when you were drinking. This personal witness lets out the things you had kept hidden, brings them out into the open, and you find release and strength. Am I receiving strength from my personal witnessing?

Meditation for the Day

We cannot fully understand the universe. The simple fact is that we cannot even define space or time. They are both boundless, in spite of all we can do to limit them. We live in a box of space and time, which we have manufactured by our own minds and on that depends all our so-called knowledge of the universe. The simple fact is that we can never know all things, nor are we made to know them. Much of our lives must be taken on faith.

Prayer for the Day

I pray that my faith may be based on my own experience of the power of God in my life. I pray that I may know this one thing above all else in the universe.

We cannot live a choiceless life.
Every day, every moment, every second, there is choice.
If it were not so we would not be individuals.

Pain

“Though I still find it difficult to accept
today’s pain and anxiety with any great degree of serenity
— as those more advanced in the spiritual life
seem able to do —
I can give thanks for present pain nevertheless.
I find the willingness to do this
by contemplating the lessons learned from past suffering
— lessons which have led to the blessings I now enjoy.
I can remember how the agonies of alcoholism,
the pain of rebellion and thwarted pride,
have often led me to God’s grace, and so to a new freedom.”

When I remember your love,
 I weep,
and when I hear people talking of you,
 something in my chest,
 where nothing much happens now,
 moves as in sleep.

ACIM Workbook Lesson 83 Insights

Review: “My only function is the one God gave me.”
and “My happiness and my function are one.”

God’s Love is constant and changeless. As I was created by God’s Love as Love, I am constant and changeless. The Love I am is my function. My true Identity is my happiness. In reality there can be no conflicting goals. If I think I have another goal, that goal is meaningless and an illusion. There is no other goal than God’s Love because there can be nothing besides God’s Love. My remembering this is my salvation.

It is my job to recognize empty goals and let them go. It is only when I stick to my true function that I can be truly happy. This is my practice today. My only function is the one God gave me. My happiness and my function are one.
